So I did a thread search but didn't find the exact problem I am having. So I was driving normally to work today and went to pass some cars and got on it a little. It maxxed out the stock boost guage and when I got past the cars I eased up on the throttle. I went to pass the next set of cars and there was NO BOOST, it also felt like it was harder to push on the gas pedal.

The car hasn't cooled down yet so I haven't taken off the intake to check to see if the compressor spins freely but this is a new EBAY 16G turbo. It has 800 miles on it. The ebay vendor I bought it from said it was built with quality parts and not the cheap chinese crap.

I don't know how to check for boost leak and I can't hear the turbo spinning but with the aftermarket exhaust it is hard to hear anything. I actually had my stereo turned up as I was driving and didn't hear the wastegate release the pressure after I passed the cars but there wasn't any significant lack of boost or anything while it was boosting. It was running just fine. There is a small vaccum looking line on the top of the intake with a boost controller connected to it that runs to the turbo, every now and then it gets blown off the nipple on the intake side.

Thanks for your help. I am sure this has been asked somewhere but I just spent the past 45 mins reading and didn't find the same situation.

They lied, it's chinese.

Recently I tried a knockoff GT35R on my buddy's car and it died in 400 miles. The ad clearly said the turbo was ball bearing- when I tore it down after it took a dump, the turbo was journal bearing. The seller clearly lied.

They'll tell you anything you want to hear in order to sell their junk products. Honestly, every one of those knockoff 16G's look the same....I'm willing to bet there's only one chinese manufacturer building every one that's sold.

My advice to you is open your warranty claim immediately.

no one can have a "special made" turbo for $200. Ebay is so flooded with this china crap, everything from turbos to shift knobs. Sellers have to make there Ad stand out from others to that extra edge. "professionally built" looks good in your eyes. but its no different than the other china turbo. Ebay turbos seem to be way to hit and miss. some people use them for a while..true... but they got lucky. I wouldn't want to spend 200, 4 times before i got lucky. Turbos, your really do get what you pay for, Cause a company is standing behind it.:thumb:

I read "stock boost gauge" and shudder.

A boost gauge is one of, if not THE, first mod.

For reference, the ONLY turbo I've ever bought for 200 bucks was a USED 14b back in the day.

My cousin has one of those turbo's which he bought used for 70 bucks from a kid in town. It works great. It spools slightly slower than my real Evo 3 16G, but that's it.
