Translab Shiftkit Installation ??

I don't really know where else to look or post this question so I'll put it here. May a moderator move it where it need be if this is the wrong place.

I'm trying to find someone who can, or knows someone who can modify my valve body in my 96 TSI (auto)AWD transmission. I've bought the Trans-Lab shift kit but I have 0 confidence in even touching the valve body. I know I can buy a valve body already modified with the shift-kit installed but would really like to see how much it would cost to just find someone who has done it or can do it for me.

I've already talked to Kiggly and he said he does not do valve body jobs for people. I spoke with someone at IPT and he was very rude, and basically kept trying to sell me a $3000 transmission for my 600hp build.

Any useful information would be great.


Edit: and yes in the future I plan to swap either to a 5spd awd, or get a car that is already a 5spd and then buy a built or rebuilt transmission for my power goal but for right now I want to get my automatic stable.

I have installed this kit with my dad who is very car savvy just a few weeks back. Just let me say that if you dont not have 100% CONFIDENCE in doing this install, do not do it. We have had the valve body installed and taken apart five times until it was finally finished. The end result was good but I would have much rather taken it to a tranny shop and had them do it. You will need to bore out holes, replace seals that you can tell if theyre seated right, springs. The linkages can become a very tough issue also. We had alot of issues with linkages and functioning correctly. If you decide to do it, make sure you do it on a huge piece of white paper and take lots of pictures because there are alot of small parts.

Also I have had good customer service with IPT I hope your experience was just a quirk. I talked to the owner and he actually talked to me off of his home phone about the problems I was having and we got the problem fixed.

I'm not interested in doing the shiftkit myself... I want to find a place, or someone who knows what to do and can guarantee the job, to do it for me. I've spoken to a few transmission shops and they really don't want to mess with the "import" stuff but said they could rebuild the transmission if I needed it done.

Again, if anyone knows a good, reliable person who can do the valve body/shift kit for me, I would be very greatful to hear from you. I can ship my valve body anywhere in the country with no problem.

In all honesty, I'd contact transdude (John at IPT) about it. Most likely he will have it installed for you.

I bet IPT would also charge a fortune as their valve bodies are already pretty expensive.

They said they were not interested in doing the shiftkit and valve body modification itself.

If you could have your car down for awhile maybe you could send in your valve body to have it done.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do... The valve body is laying in the garage waiting on someone who can do it for me . I'm about to say screw it and buy a shep stage 3 or 4 and turn my car into a manual

I've thought about sending Shep some 5spd awd transmissions for credit on one of his transmissions. He's givin about $500 for 2G transmissions
