Its a 1G non turbo crank (don't know if its different from the turbo) with Wiseco pistons and Eagle rods. I want to put a ball bearing turbo on it and run close to 500 whp, hopefully under 30psi of boost to do it. Will the crank take it? Should I get ARP main studs?

The ARPs would be a good idea on any setup for added safety, but I'll let someone with more experience with them chime in. The crank on the 1gnt is the same as the 1gt....the only difference is the piston/rod combo. Put the good pistons/rods on along with your turbo and you'll be fine...Providing you have done all the necessary things in order to run said turbo;)

Yeah should have mentioned that the pistons and rods are for the turbo model to bring the compression down and such. I have a built motor and all the supporting mods, I just didn't want to blow the crank out the bottom. So it should handle 500+ bhp?

It will handle the same ammount of stress as a turbo crank...I'd have a few others chime in on this, but my understanding is that the difference on the 1gnt and the 1gt is the pistons, rods, oil squirters, and I've also heard that the oil galleries are smaller...but I'm not sure on the latter. I've never heard ANYTHING mentioned about the crank being different and I've searched a TON on it because my block is a n/t block....and I didn't want to jack anything up.

I remember Buschur saying the stock crank is as good as any. This was on a forum where people were asking about sheps engine. Modern Automotive is using a stock crank in their 2.4 Mitsu powered RX7 (because the eagle crank they started with was a piece of crap), which is more stressful to the crank being a lot longer stroke.

You're going to tell me that 2 centimeters is "a lot more" than stock stroke? Not hardly a lot. And I've yet to see an Eagle stroker crank fail anyone on the forums. Doesn't mean it hasnt but I've not seen it.

from everything ive heard main studs are not required and cause more headaches because you have to get the block line bored. the factory bolt will hold up to what your gonna throw at them

My post was saying that I've heard 2 very reputable DSM builders say the stock cranks are awesome. Modern Automotive's shortblocks are rated for over 800 hp and use the stock cranks. Why are you trying to argue? My post was basically agreeing with your previous post anyways. I didn't think I posted anything that should offend anyone. He was asking if the stock cranks are OK for 500 hp, and I'm saying even the longer stroke ones are good for way more than that.

By the way, it's LESS than 2 centimeters difference. Around 14 percent difference on stroke (and piston speed). The STRESS on it would be CONSIDERABLY MORE than 14 percent more. So according to you 7500 and 8550 rpms, 10.0 and 11.4 in the quarter mile, and 3000 and 3420 lbs are all about the same too. I think a 4" stroke (about), is pretty long for an engine if you're revving it pretty good, especially considering a stock crank which is holding up -- racecars don't usually have a stroke as long as these Mitsubishi's have (even the stroke of the 2.0L's, much less the 2.3/2.4).

Back to the question which was the point of this topic. Who here has had crank issues, and if so at what HP level?
