I've been using a multimeter to make sure the wires to my alternator are ok. I found the two white wires going to the post are hot all the time, the black and white wire going to the plug is on when the key is on, and the yellow wire going to the plug is always hot.
My chiltons manual shows the black key on wire, looping around a resistor (the coil I'm guessing) and back out to the yellow wire which goes to a fusable link. Seems like the yellow wire should never be hot.
