i put on my new tein type s long time ago and have been riding at that height ever since...i want it to be 1.5 inches lower... should i buy another set of springs, or can i cut them so it'll go lower...?????????

cutting your springs isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is, Chip Foose even does it, obviously its not so horrible. provided you don't heat the spring too much or cut half of the spring off. lowering springs are even better to do it with than people cutting stock, as they have higher spring rates to begin with, cutting them may decrease spring rates, but not too much to be considered horrible unless you cut half of the spring out. lowering springs with the coils at the top touching when compressed id say would be ok to cut. why have like 5 coils in the first place if they just touch each other?

i think somewhat in theory these are designed to cut without excessive heat. BTW, i cut my lowering springs recently, very gradually to not go to far, first a half coil, then looked at how it sat, then almost another half. believe it or not they are just as good as they have ever been. the key is gradual steps and keeping them cool while cutting. and no my car does not bounce... not at all in fact. if you dont take way too much out and still have some shock throw left your ride quality will somewhat maintain. my springs are the tokico hp series shock and spring combo BTW.

For 1.5 inches i would say cut them. But like stated above dont use extensive heat or you will weakin the spring and have one heck of a bouncy ride. I cut the springs on my GST with a cutoff wheel on a grinder and it worked well. Just dont torch them and you will be fine.

finally someone agrees... an easy method of not affecting the rest of the spring with heat is to submerge the spring in cool water in a bucket, leaving the part to be cut out of the water. that should leave the spring unaffected by heat.

Been discussed before, cut them, it will be stiff though... I cut my stock springs after removing 500lbs from the car, lower stance, stiffer suspension, almost free. Don't be retarded, use a cut-off wheel and re-contour the ends of the spring with a grinder. Torching springs is for assholes.

Remember that many of these coils are intended to provide buffer between the mounting plate and the actual travel length. If you decide to cut them, be sure to consider the end point being at a higher pitch (angle of intersection) than what may be intended. This will cause higher pressures at that single point than if the weight were evenly distributed across the entire mounting surface.

If you intend to do any autocross or similar activities, where intense pressures are applied while varying turning angle, it has the potential to cause damage to the mounting surface, as compression and expansion cause the spring to rotate. Just be forewarned that you MAY, not definitely, cause unnecessary wear on your suspension system.
