Ok guys here is my question before I drop $1400 bucks. I want some more power out of my 97 GSX. Current mods FMIC, MBC, 3" exhaust from down pipe back, "no cat" short intake, boost guage, SAFC "not hooked up yet" All maintenance complete, car runs perfect!!

What I think I need from reading on here forever it seems is: evo III 16g, 650 injectors "thats all I can tune with the SAFC," Walbro 255, FPR, 2g install kit.

I'm really just trying to make a quick streetable car.

My question is, should I go extreme PSI, or forced performance? Do I really need an install kit or can I just make one, and do I need to get this ported in order to keep from getting boost creep?

If anyone has a simular setup, I would like to know if it really puts you in the seat.

My car is an automatic "for now" can the trans handle 300 hp?

Thanks in advance!!

Well the reason i bring up the 18g is its on sale, also if you've been reading about the 16g then you know your most likely are gonna want to port it an add a 34mm flapper. There goes another $100 bucks. Were the 18g comes with a 34mm flapper already. Over all id say the 18g will only be about $100 more as it is $699 plus shipping right now.

Just got off the phone with Extreme PSI, $1090 shipped for the Evo 16g, 650 injectors, and Walbro 255.
The guy said that there is a less flowing 255, that I may not need a FPR for??? Or should I just get the Walbro 190, no FPR needed? They wanted 200 for the FPR "kit" Ebay has FPRs for like 50 bucks.

Also has anyone had any experience with the ebay 02 housings???

If you don't plan on upgrading then the 190 walbro is fine. If you plan on upgrading then the 255/fpr/upgrading to something other than safc/bigger injectors. Based off what you have written so far, I would say just go with the 16g/190lph/650's/safc and you will be pleased. :thumb:

Edit: The 190 you will not need FPR for, but 255 you will.

Done and done! Just talked to Jessica from Extreme PSI "sounds hot!" I ordered the 190,650s, Evo 16g, 2g install kit, and for good measures and to help with boost creep, the Evo 02 housing! Buh bye Mustangs!!

Comes with a 2.5" stainless o2 housing, as well as the ported exhaust housing and a 34mm flapper to cure boost creep. The porting and upgraded flapper alone normally add $150+ to the price of any 16G.

I have all the accessories for a 2g install (1G oil line, oil drain, j-pipe, gaskets), and I also have a set of brand new PTE 680's here at the shop.

Looks like I read this listing a couple minutes too late.

No wideband yet, I do have a logger though. Seems that a logger and SAFC are minimum requirements for tuning.. oh and boost gauge of course! I think i'm going to scrap the 02 housing for now aswell.
I'm not sure if it will bolt to my downpipe, actually i'm not sure if my down pipe is stock or not!

Seems like a good deal jusmx, but i'm buying new for the turbo... thanks for the offer!!

You ABSOLUTELY need an upgraded o2 housing, or at least port the hell out of your stocker.

The outlet of an Evo III 16G's turbine housing is 2.5", where your stock turbo is only 2"....so the stock o2 housing is cast 2" as well. If you bolt the stock o2 housing to the Evo III 16G turbo, the o2 housing will be a restriction by about 1/2". This is the reason I was including the o2 housing in my classified listing....it saves time and money for the buyer.

You'll at least need the AFC to compensate for your larger injectors, and the logger to monitor your tuning so you don't run too lean. NEVER install larger injectors without some type of compensation.

im running this EXACT same setup you were going for in your first post...

im an A/T too...
e3 16g, e3 o2 housing, 3" turbo back (cat delete), walbro 255 high flow fp, aem afpr, 660's, SAFC, AEM UEGO wideband, & my buddies logger to tune.

i put on the turbo setup first and thought id get to the fuel portion after i made sure that everything was running 110% first. i didn't bother porting anything before the install and that was a big mistake... the wastegate actuator held 11psi strong until 4k rpm then id boost creep to 20psi until id let off on the gas. (cause i didn't want to see how high it would creep)

i saw you got the smaller 190 fp so you don't have to worry about the AFPR (good move) :thumb: but you absolutely need to port the hell out of the exhaust mani, turbine side, and o2 housing if your putting on that bigger 16g because you won't be able to control your boost.

and just in case your not familiar with porting heres a link to a good "how to"

Turbo Porting

Exhaust Manifold Porting

O2 Housing Porting

you also need to get a wideband... they're a bit expensive but a good used one should go for about $150.00 which is a pretty good investment since your protecting your $3,000 motor. once you get one you'll want to mount it just forward of the flex section on your downpipe, heres a write up on that as well to save you the trouble...

good luck with the install and if any probs pop just let us know, we'll get you smoking GT's in an A/T in no time :rocks:

:dsm:

i got the same setup as op..i guess your setup you're planning to get or already have bought should be find.. it's always good to buy from these vender instead of ebay.. i bought my e3 b16g and mani (ported) from ebay and held pretty strong at 14-16 psi....i have stock o2 housing (not ported) and do not have and creeps or spikes. made 265 whp/259trq @14 psi...
your setup can get you enough streetable power, but if you want more theres more such as bigger turbo, inj., dsmlink, drivetrain ect....
at your setup will bring you power that will get you stuck to your seat..
i got my ebay 16g and mani for $595.00 ported from ebay so it is legit....

Did you happen to notice during your installation that the outlet of the turbo was much larger than the inlet of your o2 housing?

What manifold did you buy? I've seen the eBay 16G's sell for as low as $199+ a couple bucks shipping....so you spent $400 on a ported manifold?

wow thanks for all the info guys, i think i'm just going to have my manifold, turbo, and o2 housing ported when I get everything off. I'm going to read up a bit on doing it myself "good excuse to buy a new tool!"

Just got my buddies logger, and am hooking up the SAFC when I do the install.

For the price of a wideband, I could have the car professionally tuned, i'm still torn on that.

This is going to be a fun vacation for me, gettin all dirty and such!!!

I don't mean to thread jack but the school's computers won't let me do a search.....

I am also looking at eventually upgrading to the e3 16g but I need to get the supporting mods first. Would the 190 supply all the fuel that the e3 16g would need up to like 20PSI? Along with some 650 injectors and a MBC? I have a gauge already and I know I would need a tuning tool of some kind. But I don't have enough at the moment. I just want to make sure that I don't buy under and wish I had bought more.

Future mods:
exhaust manifold, o2 housing, downpipe
turbo
FMIC
DSMlink
turbo timer
DSMlink

.....oops late for class... but thats kinda my idea for future mods.
If someone could give me insight on it I would really appreciate it.

The reason I went with a 190, is because then I wont need a fuel pressure regulator. From what I have read, it will allow me to max out the 16g. Alot of people get the 255 because they are going to upgrade in the future, I dont see myself doing that right now.

You will have to have something to tune with, SAFC, DSM Link, ect... I got my SAFC used for $110 shipped. Just check the classifieds daily.

You will also need a logger, upgraded BOV, and a bigger exhaust will be a good idea.

haha I know on the BOV. But I was thinking SAFC and a pocketlogger would be good until I can get the turbo and the rest of the modifications I need to get where I want. But I already a 3" cat-back and a basically boost free engine. So I appreciate the info and I guess the 190 should be good for me if I don't plan to upgrade for a while which is true for me. I am also trying to stay away from hitting the FPR until I find tat I actually need it. I am trying to get to the point where I have upgraded the stock turbo and engine enough where the turbo bolt on will actually show the modifications.

Does anyone know if the 190FP would still be enough for FP18g based on the fact that it pushes more but not a huge amount more? I did a lot of research before on the 18g and I know that it would be a great jump from the 14b to the 18g opposed to the 16g to the 18g. Anyone have thoughts on that?

From reading your posts, I would say that you'll be fine with an Evo III 16g. The 18g flows a little bit more and obviously costs more. I believe FP has a group buy going on right now. Your 190 pump will be fine with the 16g also and does not require a FPR even though I have read about guys overrunning their FPR's with 190 pumps.
