k well sorry about the last thread. my bad but that's why i am a newb right. i understand that i need a lot of supporting stuff to go with the turbo, but i still dont know which is right for me. i would like to see about 400 horse. so what i got from that was a 16g or 16g big. is that right or im i totally wrong. in some of those turbo explanations it said higher top end and more power, but i dont want to lose my off the line speed too. and ebay turbos pros cons do you no people with one and if so does it last a while or is it a piece of crap. time is not an issue for me. im planning on taking a year or so, compile all the parts i need, and taking a paid week off of work with lots off beer and doing all the mods/changes then. and which turbo is better oil or water cooled. i cant seem to find any threads on that.

The answer to all of your questions is out there... it really just comes down to the amount your willing to pay and the route you want to go to get there.

Just do more research and learn more than after you think you know enough start to read even more. Im still learning every time i get on the site and ive been on here for almost 2 years constantly reading about pros and cons and whats what.

I'm in the same boat as you, i'm still not sure if i want to go with a 16g or 20g. First thing is first, just read a ton on the site, then start getting the supporting mods. I've been on here for about a month, and have already gotten a killer deal on a SAFC, from another member. The deals on ebay do look tempting, i've been looking. I have read some good things about them, but if you look at the fine print they have very limited warrenties!!! Its really not much more to get a name brand turbo, just look at the MHIs. I am getting the most out of my car with the stock T25. I'm just watching for good deals and grabbing them up from the classifieds. Good luck and happy boosting. Oh whats up Bluefire, i'm about 30 minutes from you in Muskegon.

Where to start? First, I would recommend a good spell-checker, as well as the use of some punctuation to break up your sentences, as your post is a little hard to read. Second, don't street race. Seems every few months, we get someone posting about how someone got into an accident street racing, either seriously injuring themselves or others, killing themselves or others, or getting their car impounded and going to jail. Is that really worth a little fun when you could be going to the track instead? DSMtuners isn't kidding when we say we don't want to hear about how you like to street race. Grow up.

i would like to see about 400 horse. so what i got from that was a 16g or 16g big. is that right or im i totally wrong.

You can see 400 horse if you go to a ranch. If you'd like to see 400 horsepower from your car, you'll need all the supporting mods for such power levels, as well as someone to tune it. That means A: dyno time and/or B: track time.

in some of those turbo explanations it said higher top end and more power, but i dont want to lose my off the line speed too.

Fast spool/Low top-end Or Slow spool/High top end. Pick one. Some turbos have the best of both worlds, and for your 400 horsepower goal, you're in about that range. A 50-trim, with lots of support and tuning can get you there, all the while making good spool times. And there are gobs of 50-trims out there, in every color of the rainbow with every add-on you could want. If you have a tuning system that supports anti-lag/stutterbox etc, then you can get off-the-line power even with a late-spooling turbo.

ebay turbos pros cons do you no people with one and if so does it last a while or is it a piece of crap.

The general consensus is that you get what you pay for. When it comes to ebay, that's pretty much the case. Ebay turbos are notorious for shaft play, bearing/seal failure, etc. The "extras" the kits offer (manifolds, BOV's, etc.) are also notoriously sub-standard parts. You would be best off buying from a reputable vendor, many of which can be found in the Vendor's section of this site. Even better, talk to one of the vendors on the phone, tell them your car's information, what you have now, what your goals are, and they can help you formulate a shopping list for what you need. Many of the supporting vendors here are DSM'ers themselves, so they know what you'll need.

which turbo is better oil or water cooled.

If this is a car you're going to be driving every day, go with a water-cooled turbo. If it's a weekend warrior, get a turbo timer and go oil-cooled. However, the water-cooled turbos are probably going to be more reliable, so if it's an available option for the turbo you're set on, you might as well take it. Eliminating the coolant lines requires a few more parts anyway.

Please feel free to look at the staged upgrades section in the Tech section of our site to help you figure out what supporting modifications you'll need. The whole tech section and the VFAQ are very useful tools that you can use to achieve your goals. Remember to do all the maintenance your car needs before messing with its power levels and do as much research on the products you plan to buy before you buy them.

Good luck.

Edit: Lots of Michigan people jumping in on this one. What's up with that? :D

stay away from ebay as much as possible, dont rely on cheap ebay parts to build your 400hp monster, i learned my lesson in the past, the parts are cheaper but for a reason

If you want a fast spooling turbo that will hold all the way through redline look at going ball bearing. A ball bearing 50 trim will spool damn quick and get you 400 horse. Also stay away from ebay turbos. I don't wanna see another thread on here about how someone got jewed on ebay and that their turbo is crap. Another thing don't plan for what your setup is now. Plan ahead for what your future goals plans are.

not just speaking from "o i heard." I have actually owned an ebay turbo, and it was dog shit. I had it for 2 months and then came the smoke :notgood:... I took it out and there was oil all over and shaft play about 1cm so the blades were hitting the housing... If you want to produce BIG power go with something .50 trim or up... of course you will need supporting mods and a hell of a tune... Good Luck :thumb:

It was all rainy and stuff in michigan today, so I came on here to do some posting.

I would think a HX35 could make some power on your setup if you want to sped some money on a custom exhaust manifold or a bolt on housing.
