Rods Rusted still good?

There is no rust in the bearing area or where the wrist pins go but there is rust on the caps and the main part of the rod. So yea I think ill call the guy back.

I'd honestly would run them as long as the rust is not on the bearing surfaces. However, clean up the rust regardless cause you don't want flakes landing on the crank or getting into the oil pan. As for structural integrity, it's just surface rust and has not affected the inside the rods. You lost maybe like 0.01 of metal on the outside. When you're done cleaning them, remember to spray it with WD-40 to keep the rust away.

I would clean them up with rust remover and use them. NAPA has a few rust removal products.

I agree. Negative reputation can be from breaking rules not just from giving out bad information or not knowing anything.

Main thing I am worrying about is would it hinder my reliability or performance? I did get these fairly cheap. What should I clean it off with? I have them soaked in some motor oil right now but I wanna use something that wouldn't take off to much material.

steel wool if it is for sure just surface rust. Does wonders had to use it on cams before and they looked brand new after i was done.

you can use some scotch brte, high grit sand paper about 800 grit ,or a steel wire brush as long as you dont apply too much pressure and keep it lubed up

we use 800 grt on our crankshafts that get surface rust and it takes car of it really well and at the same time doesnt take off that much material

I wouldn't try to appraise rods from a photo any more than I'd appraise a car from a seller's verbal description.
My first impression is that they'll be fine. But ask a good local machinist who can get his hands on them for his opinion. He may want to have them shot-peened to clean them up.

And everyone, save the crap for the Hangout. And don't use too much there, either.
