I recently bought a 1990 plymouth laser rs turbo, but it's only FWD. So my plan was to buy a 1992 Eagle Talon TSi AWD shel and just swap the motor in. I just want to know if it should bolt in directly or if i'll have any problems.

Please Help!!!!!

You should not have any problems unless one is a 7 bolt and the other a 6 bolt. AWD and FWD flywheels are different sizes. And if one is automatic you will have to knock out a ring in the crank if you need info on that let me kno.

well they are both 6 bolts. How much of a difference is there between the FWD flywheel and the AWD flywheel?

ok i just out that i do have the flywheel in the AWD Talon. Is that all i need to worry about?

Arnt the valves bigger and or different in the turbo car? and same with the cams?

Valves are the same. Cames in the N/t cars have a slightly higher duration and lift.
As far as the swap goes, it's almost a direct bolt in except for the slight few differences the others have mentioned.

The only difference in the 90s and 92 (engine wise) is the location on the CC, coil pack, transistor pack, throttlebody, coolant L pipe, intercooler pipes, angle/ mount of the smic and the oil cooler/ filter housing

If all you are doing is swapping engines, just the flywheel is different if the Laser has a manual trans. If your Laser was auto, in auto engines the cams and injectors (390cc opposed to 450cc) will be different as well as the turbo (13g as opposed to a 14b). The 90 laser engine will also have stonger connecting rods. That's all I can think of off hand.

If you guys were following the post, you'd see that my car is not N/A. It's a 1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo. To answer a few questions: yes i have the AWD flywheel, and the shell DOES have a tranny. All I'm wanting to do is swap the motor.

Will the difference in location of the transistor packs and throttle body affect the swap drastically?

Another thing that might give you troubles is the engine mounting brackets, the ones that are actually bolted to the engine block (front and rear). From what I had seen the fwd and awd were slightly different. I know there was a post I read on here that someone had that problem, he ended up haveing to buy the bracket from a car with the same driveline.

And the throttle body will be another problem. The '90 motor has a different one than the 91-94. Wiring on them is different. Believe me, someone swaped a 90 motor into my 91 so I was left with connectors with nowwhere to go. Then along with the tb the fuel rails between 90 and 91-94 are different. The end is turned differently to clear the TPS's them. Again I know because thats another thing I had to do to mine.

So along with the fly wheel, you'll want to get a '91-'94 throttle body and fuel rail. Im not sure how muchof problem the other things mentioned are.

man, you guys are helping me out alot and i really appreciate it.

If I have the throtle body to the 1992 talon, it should bolt right up to my 1990 intake manifold right?

It will bolt up fine, except the studes on the 90 intake are longer because its tb is thicker than the 91-94. You'll need some kind of a spacer, some over sized nuts work nicely. :sneaky:
I also wasnt able to use the black 'y' bracket that connects to the tb and head, fuel line couldnt get past it.

Coil Pack plugs are different between 90 and 91-94. The ecu from the 92 will certainly be needed too if you dont have it. The 90 ecu is different.

LOL well i figured i'd need an ECU. basically the talon has everything. it just has a blown motor

I cant believe no one has mentioned this yet BUT your going to also need and awd starter plate if not good luck trying to start your car.:tease:
