It was about 10:30 pm at night and I went into the parking lot of a sonic and my car hit the edge of the sidewalk and damaged my IC. Immediately the tailpipe started smoking and I lost all power to my car. I was able to drive it to the nearest parking spot to have it towed.

Today I replaced the damaged IC and the car feels really choppy and rather boostless. I checked for boost leaks but I have found none, and I unplugged my battery to see if it helped but no dice :notgood:

The car has a brand new small 16G.

Any suggestions?

Did you actually use a boost leak tester and pressurize your intake? A visual inspection isn't good enough.

As for the title, you shouldn't need a new turbo, even if chunks of metal broke off (which is highly unlikely) your turbo is upstream from the intercooler.

+1 for checking boost leaks, with a pressure gauge.

Thanks for the added confidence. I would hate to have to replace it. I will pressure check for leaks. I'll update as I go along. :thumb:

If you tried driving alot without a charge pipe, you could seriously overspool the turbo and damage things.

Going WOT once or even shifting at like 5k could have done turbo damage... as the wastegate would have never opened, ever.

Very true, forgot about that...

I know that can happen from experience :notgood:

You didn't do any WOT pulls right after did you (or even build boost for that matter).

+2 with the pressure guage, I have found very small boost leaks that way, something you could never see visually.

When you hit the curb, the intercooler flexed and probably slid a pipe loose from a coupler. Reinstall all of your couplers and then boostleak test. Your turbo should be fine
