Speed Sensor broke..

After putting in a new intake mani, and changing the fuel filter, my mph's stay at zero and my odometer doesn't move. Checked my speed sensor on top of the tranny, and it pulled out. The long plastic 'tube I guess you could say snapped.. So the other half is in the tranny still. How would I get it out?

Also, would it be bad for the car if I ran it with the speed sensor broke like that till I get a new one?

Did it break off the bolt that attaches it to the trans? If not just unbolt it and grab that part. Otherwise i would say try using a pair of snapring pliers with the tips facing outwards to pull it out. I wouldn't think it would be bad to drive without it. Didn't hurt anything on my S10 or my Supra when I forgot to hook it up after a clutch swap.

ya my plastic tube thing broke now speedo dont work anyone know how that thing works and if there is an easy or quick fix

The bottom of the VSS looks like a plastic fan wheel. Is that piece still in the transmission? I'd work on getting that out prior to running it again. Lastly, the part is a 1 bolt operation, so what you see is what you get, nothing really going down into the transmission case except the gear.

yeah its a plastic cover that houses the wire clip that broke and under plastic cover is some shiny metal rod {bolt?} i tried to glue plastic cover and clip wire to it but no go

so how can this be fixed or replaced w/out taking tranny down. Cause thats a bi*** in my driveway by myself. So any quick fix ideas
