I was reading a forum post on doing a 6bolt swap and it said that you can use a bigger oil filter like one off of a 3000gt vr4 TT and it said that it would help eliminate valve noise. So the questions are Why is it better to do a bigger filter and why does it eliminate valve noise?

I found the article it says a Mobil One 105 oil filter or a 92 Mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 oil filter but like a but I don't understand how it helps valve noise

the car doesn't tick all the time just every once in a while but it is usually just for a second or so but the question came from a article post that I read I just didn't see how the oil filter could elminate valve noise

I've been hearing this "oil filter size" and "oil weight cure" story about DSMs and their inherent lifter tick forever. I cannot come up with any mechanical reason why it should matter.
If your used-up lifters are ticking, and they're so near the edge of failure that a filter or an oil weight will make any difference, you're already so close to having the engine do the Big Nagasaki that there's not much need to worry about it. Noisy lifters don't hurt anything other than your cool factor in the parking lot.
A bigger oil filter is better. The difference in size amongst DSM filters isn't enough to matter. Going to a remote mount and a Ford filter would matter some. But there's also the simple truth that if your filter is pulling out enough crap to "help" anything, the engine's already scrap.

I'm sorry I have to disagree with you. A filters job is to trap any forign particles and internal engine break down particles. If there's alot of metal coming out, yes your engine may be on it's way out. And the filter isn't really there for that. It's there for the occasional piece of dirt or slut rub the engine does to itself.
Now as far as size. It's just like an air filter. The larger the surfice area the easy the job of the oil pump is to pump through it. Also the longer it takes to clog up and bypass. So a larger filter is a goodthing, up untill the point of being to large and the oil pump has a hard time filling it up and that leeds to oil starvation elsewhere. I'm not sure what to big is.
Now as far as lifter tick. It's a bad design. To small of a hole for the oil to travel in an out of. Gets clogged easy. If yours aren't clogged then frequent oil changes and a nice quality filter should prolong the tick, but it well proably happen eventually. My recomondation is to upgrade to 3g lifters. There design is much better and should eliminate the tick.

My $1.50

Defiant pretty much nailed it on the head. We all knew about the lifters having to small of a opening.
