I was wondering i anyone could help me. I bought my car a year ago and ever since my service engine soon light was on. I took the car to mitsubishi and they told me that I had a vacume leak. Well i think they unplugged the battery and hooked it back up because 2 days later it came back on. So I took my car to auto zone and they plugged in the reader for the computer. So after they found the code they told me they did not know what it meant. Stupid ass auto zone people. Then I called mitsu. and they would not help me telling me they used a different code.. So basically a bunch of BS........

So if anyone here could please help me!!! The error code I got was P1494 and this is described as a SPCUT SOLENOID CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. Any help would be great guys thanks. I drive a 1999 Mistubishi Eclipse RS-T Thanks Levi Schilz

the reason the check engine light went off is beccause they cleared the codes off the ecu, and then it was tripped again, thats why the check engine light whent back on. Only GO TO MITSUBISHI they know their ####, go to another Mitsu or Chrylser dealer, trust me im a tech at a Jeep/eagle dealer, they know what they are doing

I don't understand why so many people have such a hard time at the dealership, everytime I go they are friendly and helpful (and don't try to charge me). They even bring me into the bay and let me look at their service computer screen to better explain what they are talking about.

When I inquired about the P1494 CEL code they told me it was the Evaporative Emissions Solenoid that was failing. He went on to show me where it was and how it connects. He also told me that they are known to give out, especially during extreme changes in temperature and humidity (ie seasonal changes). Haven't priced a replacement yet, but will not affect engine or performance. (just have the annoying CEL lit.)

For anyone interested the solenoid is located on the passenger side in the space between the front wheel and the headlight, it is the same place as the horn or your AEM CAI filter (if you have one) but on the passenger side.

Lucky for me I was able to get it cleared and it never returned (knock on wood)

Thank god. Someone who doesn't always have a beef with the dealership. Anyways.
Yeah, another wording for p1494 is Leak Detection Pump Pressure Switch or Mechanical Fault. Like Don't Need 8 was saying it's emissions related and won't hurt the car.

That Evaporative Leak Detection pump is designed to pump a small amount of air in to the gas tank and fuel vapor lines. It pressurizes it by 2-3 pounds. There's a sensor that detects that pressure. When the computer runs a test and sees a drop in that pressure it assumes either the pump is not doing it's job or there is a leak in the system. That leak in the system equates to raw gas fumes/liquid in extreme cases going in to the atmosphere as polution. When working properly the system is good at letting the repair technician know that there's a leak. However, alot of times that pump either hangs or quits working all together. And that particular code would indicate that there's a problem with the pump mechanism itself.

Related codes are Large leak detected, Medium leak detected and small leak detected. Pretty clear what they mean. But what some people don't know is that pumping gas with the car running will cause this pressure job and thus throw the light. Also leaving off vacuum lines in the engine bay will cause this. However, I don't think these conditions apply to your case given the code.

Thank you "Don't Need 8" and "Doug99RS" for responding with something other than TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP... I have been all over the internet trying to track this P1494 solution down.
