Decided to throw together a daily this will be my first DSM attempt and yes I am the ever dreaded "ex-honda guy" :shhh:
Put together a few that were fun so Im trying something new. Picked up a 92 GSX needing work so far the seller seems to be honest. Once the motors done we shall find out for sure.
Setup will be:
1G rods, 20 over 2G pistons, 3G lifters, basic rebuild overall recut valves etc...
Eliminating balance shafts and balancing rotating assembly. ARP rod bolts and Headstuds with a Cometic gasket, new T-belt, water pump all gaskets seals etc will be replaced, reusing cams and rockers for now,
EVO III mani nicely ported, 16G ported by RRE w/38mm WG, 3"Tubroback w/testpipe and recirc o2, stock SMIC w/Dave Brode UPIC and crushed 1G BOV recirced as well,
Supra fuel pump, spoolin FPR, denso 660, SAFC, Will be running stock pump and injectors for break in though.
Fidanza flywheel, ACT 2600, Alledgedly has a TRE center diff spool but I havent checked yet.
Should be a decent ride Im hoping still have a few issues to figure out. Worst part now is sitting waiting for the machine shop to get a chance to get it done they were pretty backed up last I called. :sosad:
 
Previous owner had already disabled the AC so it has been removed now. All components are out of the engine bay anyway. emissions were pretty much deleted as well including replacing cat with 3" test pipe so Im wondering how Im going to get through emissions.
Planning on running a stock pump, injectors and ecu and see what happens I geuss. :confused:
 
You will fail emissions with flying colors; no joke. I have all the emissions junk in a box, I can send it all to you if you need it; for pretty cheap.


Even with all the emissions back on you wont pass unless you put a cat on and get rid of the test pipe. no cat equals automatic failure
 
you will be fine on the stock fuel setup as long as you dont turn the boost up say over 15 psi... If you really want some power and a good tune I would definatly get the fuel mods you described then you can safely turn up the boost... also you can do the fuel pump rewire for a little extra fuel.
 
Tuning those 660s on an SAFC might get a little hairy. They'll run close to the edge of what the AFC is capable of changing. If you're planning on keeping things fairly tame, a set of 550cc's will be able to handle the 16g, and will be easier to tune with the AFC.

If you're stuck on the 660s, check to see if you have an EPROM ecu. It will have an E on the sticker, and if you open it up, there will be a rectangular chip in the corner. If you do have an EPROM, you can get a new chip made for it for $100 or less, which will change the injector size inside the ecu's 'brain.' This well let you run without the AFC.

The 660s came with the car and I have some 450s in my other GSX so I planned to use the stock fuel components for break-in and emissions purposes. After that use the AFC and run 12-15psi till I can find an EPROM ECU to use for DS-MAP and the 660s.
My understanding is that emissions in WA is free-rev only for AWD (no boost) therefore I might have a prayer ? ? ?
As luck would have it I have 2 1G GSX sitting here and neither have an EPROM LOL
With a rebuild in the works I dont have the extra $$ to throw at an ECU right now. So higher boost and tuning will come later. Just the SAFC for now as it came with the car. Im really hoping to switch to Speed density tuning setup as soon as possible anyway.
However it is supposed to stay mild as it will be driven daily, My 91 is the track monster or at least thats the plan:shhh:

Very true!

To the best of my knowledge we still do not have visual inspections in WA but I havent been through in a couple months. I am still hunting locally for a cat to use just in case.

Poor things been from Texas to Cali to WA at least that I know of.

Fresh wash nice and wet with just the right angle.:D
in all reality it needs a little freshen up on the paint but we swapped in some NICE interior from my other one.
