I went to the local junkyard today that has a 94 talon fwd turbo that was running about a week ago until the timing belt went. I am going to purchase a 91 tsi awd and it has a no spark situation. I decided to go down and get some sensors since I have a 90 and everything is diffrent. While I was taking parts I thought to see if it had an ecu which it did and it happend to be an EPROM ecu!!!!

I went in to pay and the guy down there told me not to worry about paying for it.

here are some pics.

Sweet deal, dsmlink. Thats a premium line ecu whats ever thats means.:p That guy will be kicking himself in the a$# when he finds out how much that ecu is worth.

Yeah i know.

I cant get the cover off I could only get one screw to let loose and tore the heads up on the others so I have no idea how to take the other screws out with out hurting it.

Im so stoked!!

how do u knwo that has dsm link? and a question are all the injectors blue tops i have a 90 also so what would mine be?

I have no idea if it has DSMlink. I know that the board is socketed though.

My 90 that I have now has blue top 450 cc injectors.

When you go to drill them. Use a Bit Double the size of the Screws shaft. Go slow and just drill deep enough that the screw head pops off. DONOT DRILL ANY DEEPER! (reason for the Dbl sized bit is to enshure you do not drill into the ECU case threads, and only the heads of the screws.)
Use compressed air to remove ALL metal shavings BEFORE you even attempt to remove the lid!

Then simply pop the ECU lid off and Thread out the screw shafts by hand, or Very gently with some needle nose pliers..
Simply replace the screws with some from a hardware store... Done..

You will know immediatly by reading the sticker on the chip if its dsmlink or not...

PIMKing,
So, what are you going to do with the current ECU in your car?

I'm planning to MegaSquirt my 90 TSi at some point in the future and would like to find a dead ECU to raid the connector from, if you are just going to toss yours I'll pay shipping if you'll send it to me.

I looked at 2 different ECMs with the E on the serial tag and they infact did NOT have the eprom in them. So make sure it does infact have it as I've found out first hand that just because it has the E does not mean it is an eprom.

Raid the plug? For what exactly?

So I can build an adapter harness to plug the MegaSquirt ECU into the stock wiring harness.
If I can do that I only have to run one wire for the IAT sensor and the vacuum tubing instead of a whole new harness.

I'd raid the plug from my current stock ECU but then my DD is down until I get the MS installed and the ECU I have is an eprom unit which I can sell later once I get everything working.

I think that would be a bad idea, unless you know exactly what you're doing and intend to build a relay board for your MegaSquirt, otherwise you wont have a way to trigger some things to work that you'll need. I'm MegaSquirt'ing my Stroker and I'll still use my stock ecm for some things.

Very good find, I drive for a hour every two weeks to go to my junk yards and have never found a DSM ecu of any kind and have only found one ISC over the last 2 years.

Well I bought a 91 tsi AWD today.

It had a no spark and when I turned the car on the CEL and boost gauge didnt move so I thought hmm lets try that new ecu and volla! car started first turn of the key!!!

It needs to have the alt tightend down and oil plugs and lower rad hose done tomarrow.

here are the mods:

TRE fully built tranny with double syncroed 1st-4th gear and 10% taller 5th gear. (200 miles on it)

Comp Cams. (I dont have the cam specs off hand they are at the other garage) with Fidanza cam gears.

EGR block off

Solid motor and tranny mounts.

Rebuilt motor less than 5k on it

ss valves and new valve springs

3 inch down pipe with test pipe then stock after were the cat was.

ACT 2600 clutch

Fidanza Flywheel

I will put on my 16g and upper icp and bov.

The Biss screw leaks so I will put mine on from the 90.

Tubular manny

In the next week or so I will get bigger injectors, fuel pump, FPR, DsmLink

and I bought all this for $2000.

I will post pics and videos of it tomarrow!

I am so frecking excited!!!

Everyone's saying "drill, drill, drill." There's a MUCH easier way to do this.

Simply grab the heads of the screws with a pair of vise grips. They aren't in there very tight, so they'll come right out.

Once they're removed, replace them with 4mm (thread) x 10mm (length) hex-head bolts....the heads will never strip again.
