:talon: I bought a 94 TSi AWD around six months ago. Took me a month to pay it off and it had a few small problems... well I thought were small. I finally paid it off and started driving it. After driving it for about fifteen mins I decided to take it on the interstate. Three miles later it over heated and quit on me. I towed it back home, changed the thermostat and filled it full of anitfreeze. Fired it up and it had an awful knock. So after searching the internet I found a used motor for cheap and bought it. After months of working on it I finally got the motor out a week ago. Now I have everything swapped over to the new motor and its ready to be put back in. Heres some pictures of my car and the work ive done so far. I asked some questions on here and everyone was very helpful. Thank you to all. Hopefully I will have the motor in and everything hooked up by next weekend and have another DSM back running. :talon:

Good luck with the swap man, sorry to hear the bad luck to start with. Are you swapping to a five speed while your at it or are you staying auto?

staying with the auto... i really want to do the 5speed swap but moneys tight and my main priorities are to get this thing back on the road. I have owned it over 6 months and only put like 20 miles on it :( LOL

Same thing happened to me man.. I feel your pain.

I bought my fiance a 92' GSX had 119k original miles and looked in decent condition.
we drove it total of about 50-100 miles and it then keeled over and had no power. Had probably 1 Horsepower due to all the bugs. I ended up selling it for half of what I bought it for and gave the guy a transmission with it just to get rid of it. Good luck though.

That'll teach you to watch your temp. gauge?

I do watch my guages, but i was in the left hand lane and had a semi coming up beside me cause my car started to loose power so i finally got over and got to the shoulder and by that time the damage had been done. Its all good though. It should be back up and running soon. Plus this has taught me alot about this car so if it tears up again I will be more familiar with it.

trust me I know how you feel money is tight here too I have an 11 month old daughter LOL. The auto can be built as well if thats what you choose to stay with in the long run and would make your car unique, you just don't see as many of them. Good luck and btw you put more miles on than I have so far, I have only gone up and down my driveway trying to figure out numerous problems LOL.

Thanks man Im goin to work on it today. It sucks cause i have to drive like ten mins to another garage to work on it cause mine is too small, but hopefully my new motor will be sittin in the car today. Ill get some more pics up when i get a chance and ill try to make a video when i fire it up.

Yeah i bought mine last year and 3 weeks in I was just puttering down the road and I lose power, hearing the sound sof valves being crushed.

found a road block workin on my talon. I dont know why i didnt see this earlier. The new motor i bought is a 6 bolt. My old motor is a 7 bolt. The new motor was set up for 5 speed tranny and mine is auto. Now i have to find the spacer plate for a 6 bolt so i can bolt up my torque converter. Can anybody help me out here?

You got yourself into a bigger project than you expected. A 6 bolt into a 7 bolt swap is hard enough. But now you need to add the crank bushing from an auto. I have an auto 6 bolt motor with those parts but they are a PITA to get off and I wouldn't think it'd be all too easy to put them on another motor. I would find yourself a new motor if you need to get this done real soon.

so it aint as simple as just taking out the bolts and swapping over... im about to my wits end with this car

I feel your pain man. I bought a 1990 Talon AWD and I was able to put almost 20 miles on it when the motor compeletely locked up. I'm putting in a motor this week also! I hope all goes well for the both of us!

So what to do now? Should I rebuild my old 7 bolt and put it all back in and sell the 6 bolt or should i try to find somethin to make this six bolt work?

Sorry to hear about the road block, perfect time for that 5 speed swap :thumb:
Good luck with that man, try the dsm graveyard or dsm traders for those parts if your wanting to stay auto.

well theres no guarantees that this 6 bolt motor will work... I just bought it from a guy for cheap. But it all seems good. How hard is it to do a 5 speed swap on these cars?

Are you on crack? I did a 6 bolt into a 2g as my first engine swap and it was easy as hell.
6 bolt in to a 7bolt 1g cannot be harder, all the motor mounts are the same and you don't have to wory about CAM sensor harnesses.

To the OP. First off, the 6bolt in many peoples opinion is a better engine, so you have an "upgrade" from your previous engine. As for the "spacer plate" I'm not entirely sure what you are talking about. The blocks should be no different as far as bolting up to the trans. Everything from the auto should just swap over. Only thing that I can think of that is different is the spacer plate that goes between the trans and the block. But the one from your 7 bolt should work, as it's for an auto.

this is the problem. there is a plate that bolts to the crank and my torque converter for the auto bolts to it.. its on my 7bolt and i need it for my 6 bolt but it has seven bolt holes so it wont work.

You mean the flex plate? Yeah, that is definatly going to be different. Go to autozone and pick one up. shouldn't be too expensive. I'm not sure if the torque converter from a 7 bolt will bolt up to a 6 bolt torque converter. That you'll have to find out.

already went to autozone... he called it a spacer plate, but anways he said he couldnt order it.

I'm pretty sure I have a 6 bolt auto flex plate over at my parents house, the bushing I'm not sure about though. I do have a torque converter from a 6 bolt too. let me check....
