stock timing?

ok im new to dsms but not cars in general so i have a question about a 95 talon tsi. Im not sure what the timeing should look like? so far i learned that little grooves on the timing gears should line up when the gears mesh together? so i looked at mine but the grooves dont line up, so is my car suppost to be like that? and how can i adjust timing on this car if i did swap cams or change my timing belt?

ok so reading all that my marks should line up. but my car still runs and runs good but those marks dont match
