I see several dsm's that have the turbo piped straight to the intake manifold. What is the point of this? I assume you get better boost but your putting hotter air in you engine? Is this just strictly a track setup?

99% chance that the "straight pipe" is a Air-Water intercooler. Efficient system over short duration, more suited for the strip.

And no, hotter air =\= better air; colder air is denser air. Denser air has more o2, and more o2 means more bang.

You may also be seeing cars that dont have any intercooler at all....many drag cars that have meth injection setups dont feel the need to run an intercooler at all due to the decrease in air charge temps from the spray...this is done alot with the buick guys and yes this is strictly a track setup

Alright I think I got it, so meth/water injection is enough to cool it for you don't need an IC?

At the track because it's only short bursts of driving followed by the car being off and cooled down.

Having a street car with no intercooler would be a lot more difficult due to you having to balance and monitor your alcohol injection with intake temps during extended driving use.

The fastest cars running without an intercooler are running methanol as a fuel, instead of gasoline. In this case, an intercooler is an unneeded restriction. Many methanol drag cars actually start to build up frost on their intake manifolds in humid weather.

And right now methanol is 3.59 a gallon, or if bought by a 55 gallon drum is only 2.64 a gallon. I'm seriously considering it, but i want more fuel flow first. but with these prices, i don't care if i have to drive home to fill up. I'll still have pump gas maps for road trips and great fuel for cheap all day.

Check out my thread in the water injection / nitrous forum, I tested meth injection and no inter-cooler on the street for a couple of weeks and the results were mixed, some good some bad. Read through it you'll pick up a lot of info from others that contributed some good "tech" to the thread
