help with turbo question

hey guys once again another question haha. my turbo boost max at 12 psi. its weird because when i look at my boost gauge ( after market) it gets to 10 psi and i can hear the turbo but it doesnt feel like its pulling sounds like its just spooling up.... it has no shaft play at all and no smoke is it just me or what

When you say you're boost is set to 12psi, what are you using to control that? A stock 1g should run ~10psi stock.

As for the sound, while the turbo is winding up, the pitch will get higher then become a solid tone once it levels off. I'm not quite sure what you were trying to say there.

I am just courious, you did not happen to have your timing belt redone did you? I had a mechanic mess up my timing and I had similar results as you. JW

I would say check you timing marks on the cams since its pretty easy.

If you had a tooth off... You would know it. If anything I would make sure you have done a Boost leak test if you haven't done one before. They are easy and you won't believe some of the things you will find the first time around. When I did mine, I found out ALL 4 of my injector seals were leaking BAD!! once I replaced all 4 which cost me like ...~$10 The car held boost almost normally except for a tiny leak from the throttle body.

Yes its easy to check your timing marks, where I doubt it the problem unless your car sounds extremely lopy like or car is running like shit, then I would still check the marks, My suggestion though... boost leak test.

If your timing is off a tooth or two, it is really not that noticable. My car idled normally. The only time I noticed was when I went into boost. It felt like the car was holding back. I got a boost leak, and then I started running faster. Wierd. I would def. do a leak down test tho.
