I Own A 97 Gst And Its An Auto... I Want To Put A 5spd Into It,
But Im Not To Sure What Tranny To Buy, Do I Have To Buy A 95-99 Gst Tranny?
I Dont Want To Get An N.a. Tranny If Its Not Going To Handle My Power Mods AND ITS KINDA HARD TO FIND AN AFFORDABLE GST 5SPD.
Please Help WHAT COULD I USE???????????????????????????????

I think the transmissions are the same for fwd. I could be wrong. 93+ years are good transmissions. Are you looking for a fwd transmission? You can use an awd transmission as you fwd transmission. They are much stronger.

i was told that it was a 7-bolt engine and older that 95 would not work?
i happen to have an awd tranny how do i use it as a fwd????????????

ok so if im standing in front of a tranny that some guy says is out of a gst. how do i tell the differance?
is there a was to use the awd 5spd in a fwd ?

You could try to just convert to an awd. That will make you very happy cus as soon as you put the 5 speed in you'll never have traction again. I did the 5 speed swap on my car and it wasn't too hard. You do have to use a '95-'99 fwd tranny if you're going to stay fwd. a 1'st gen tranny will not work. The 1'st gen has 3 motor mounts and 1 tranny mount as oposed to the 2g wich has 3 tranny mounts and 1 motor mount. If you are looking at a tranny make sure it has the places to bolt up all 3 mounts and that it is a fwd.

so if i did a custon touqe plate between the motor and tranny (like the old skool hotrods) i could use the 1st gen tranny?
so the 1st gen tranny will bolt up to my 2nd gen?
and the mounts are the only problem?

I think the issue is that when the motors were turned the other way for whatever year in the 2nd generation, the transmission mounts are different. 93+ transmissions are better than 92 and below. I never looked inside a 2g engine bay with the motor flipped the other way. So I dont know what you are looking at.
