Nasty smell from under car and exhaust, but no CAT?

Alright guys. I first noticed the smell about 6 months ago but it was on and off and very minimal, so I just wrote it off. Well its getting pretty bad now.
I know its not the CAT because I've been running a test pipe for a couple months. The engine in my car is pretty much stock, only thing I've done is put an Injen intake in it and a COP setup. I have yet to get my ignition amplifier yet, but its on the way, besides I doubt weak spark from my COP setup is causing this smell.
I have roughly 40,000 miles on this engine.
The smell is like an open RDT dumping under the car. Hopefully atleast a few of you know what a road draft tube smells like.
Would this be the key, is it possibly the EGR? I dont know why it would be, I just replaced it less than a year ago when I tore the engine down, rebuilt the head, and put the updated head gasket kit in it.
Let me know what you guys think.

I installed the test pipe into the stock exhaust. The rest of the exhaust looked good, only the car had plugged up so I just installed the test pipe. I didnt like any of the rediculous sounding exhaust that the after market is flooded with.

I build this car when I get the time and money to, and with the COP setup I lucked into a set that a lady needed to get rid of and I could get it for cheap. So I did my research and didnt find anything about requiring an amplifier so I went for it, little did I know.
Anyway, my stock coils weren't as peppy as they used to be, plus my plug wires needed replaced so I figured with both the coils and the wires going south I would go for the COP setup and have the car's ignition system pepped up enough to handle atleast 600hp. I quickly discovered the problem with running a COP setup without an amplifier, so I purchased that today from JNZ Tuning.

But lets keep on topic here.
I would think if it was an exhaust leak it would be stupidly loud like those rice canners sound, and its not. Its no louder now than it was the day I installed the test pipe. But maybe I'll jack the car up and check to see if the test pipe is leaking, just to be certain.

I guess I shouldnt say "stock" exhaust, because its not. The muffler was replaced with an after market piece, not sure of the brand, but it isnt stupidly loud so I like it.

Well, I can smell it when Im sitting at a stop light with the windows down, and I can smell it from the side underside of the car, as well as from the back. It SEEMS like the smell gets stronger for an instant when I put my nose close to the exhaust tip.

Also, I'll just make the smell a little more clear in case you dont know what a RDT smells like. It does NOT smell like sulfur. It does NOT smell like clutch, but I honestly dont know what this clutch is made of.
What it does smell like is, well take your oil fill cap off your valve cover and shove your nose into the hole, thats pretty much what it smells like.

i cant really help you on this, but im kinda going through the same thing right now. i have a really bad exaust smell, i cant keep my car on in my garage id prob pas out. LOL

Sounds like you either have an exhaust leak and/or you're just smelling what you should smell: stank-ass exhaust.

Running without a cat is smelly.

No kidding. I let my car idle for 5 minutes and I could smell it about 10 feet away lingering since there wasn't a breeze.

if the smell is coming from under the car then you problably have a small leak somewhere on the pipes.

Im running with no cat and the only time i smell the dense smog from my car, is when i park it in the garage. I remember the first time i turned on my car and left it idle after my rebuild, I seriously puked. the smell stayed in the garage for an hour or so

Thanks guys for all the input.
I dont see or feel any exhaust leaks anywhere under the car so Im going to guess it was probably just because of the calm day that made me smell it.

I think the smell is wonderful........Try the smell of running rich on E85 now that is pure delight.....

I kind of enjoy the smell of a blown turbo. ;) So does everyone else.

All you have to offer is smart ass comments, isnt it. And here I thought part of the rules of this forum were no smart ass comments.

You must really think you're the shit eh.
Sorry, but all I see is someone who really doesn't know squat about the operating principals of a mechanical object, and just wants to hear himself speak. How about you just shut up and never post in one of my treads again, or next time I'll report you.
I'd be willing to bet 90% of those 2000+ posts were just smart ass comments exactly like BOTH of the ones you posted in my thread.

There's a waste of air, and then there's you. I'll decide which one is higher on the bar than the other depending on whether you take my advice or not.

Its because of people like you that the majority of society has this nasty outlook on import tuners.
From now on I will ask for only intelligent responses to my threads, so that way its clear you are not allowed to post anything on the subject at hand.
