I think my front crankshaft seal is leaking. There is oil everywhere under my car. I'm putting some UV dye in tomorrow to be sure. I have oil clear from the driver side wheel hub all the way over to the transmission drain plugs. 4 quarts of oil in less than 3 weeks leaked out. I had some leaking oil before, but nothing this bad. I can't even begin to pin point where it's all coming from right now. I'd have to scrub the whole bottom end.

But back to my question, can the seal be replaced with the engine still in the car?

I have next week off. If I have to pull the engine, I'm going to clean it and do the whole timing belt and B/S removal while it's out (and maybe a few coats of high-temp paint). Otherwise, I'll save that until later this summer when the garage is finished (instead of in a dirty, mid-sized tool shed).

The front case seals can be easily replaced with the motor in the car. I would go ahead and do your timing belt and BS elimination at the same time (with the motor in the car) because you will already have everything torn apart.

agreed, i would do all of that as prevention, its not that hard to pull the drivers side mount to give you all the access you need. also might aswell replace other seals while your in there like the oil filter housing gasket and maybe the front case gasket.

Ok then. That's good to know. I do plan on pulling the engine sometime this summer so I can get it all cleaned up in there and paint the engine (I'll replace the other seals/gaskets/belts then). I want to pull it just once, and I was hoping that once wouldn't be next week.

Thanks.
