Okay, I bought a 92 TSi this week so I could have something in my garage to play with. The car was doing 320whp on a 60-1 before the turbo went, so I picked it up minus turbo and exhaust and a few other parts for a killer deal.
Here is where I'm getting confused. I know which turbo I want to go with and all of that... the car has a GM MAF that is uninstalled that came with it, so I need a MAF translator, but where does the MAF get installed? From what i understand, the MAF needs to be installed in front of the turbo, correct? Does it mount in the stock location? The car came with a Dejon Tool intake that doesn't look like a MAF installs on it anywhere.
The second thing I am having trouble understanding is the EPROM ECU the car has. With this ECU, canI still run piggy back systems? (S-AFC and such) or is the EPROM already a tuner? I read some stuff on here about using DSMLink with it, but are piggybacks an alternative or is DSMLink the best idea? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

The GM MAF installs after the turbo, between the intercooler exit and the throttle body, whereas the stock MAS on the cars installs pre-turbo. Most aftermarket intercooler pipes come with options to install the GM MAF.

As for tuning, I believe an ECU with an EPROM is needed for DSMlink. DSMlink is pretty much way better for tuning then any piggyback, but it is pretty damn expensive.

Thus, a newbie question here: what is the advantage of running a GM MAF compared to the stock MAF ? thx

It allows you to properly run a BOV vented to atmosphere and it also flows better then any stock offering from what I understand.

You won't overrun it as quickly as a stock unit. I think an unhacked 2g maf is good for around 2800-3000hz and a GM, I've heard can see more than that, none are the exact same. Another benefit for 1g guys is, it opens up inputs for logging, if you are using dsmlink.

muchas gracias compadres that was all I needed to know for now. I'll be around alot more I want to learn as much as I can about this car.
Hey, one more question, anyone used an OBX turbo? there is a good deal on an OBX 20G on Ebay... I know how ebay works mostly cheap chinese crap but OBX is a pretty well known company...

do a search on ebay turbos, from what i read there are a lot of people on here using them for a while with no problems.
