I have a 98 GST that is in great shape but its an automatic. When i got the car it was running bad beacause the trans was slipping. So i had the money and decicded to get it upgraded and had a shift kit installed. It still runs great but i would rather have a manual trans. I have no idea where to even start being i have never replaced, repaired or swaped a trans before. So my questions are what parts would i need (pref a list of parts) and what are some things i should be carefull of when doing this. also motor is a 4G63 turbo i can get the trans number if its needed for anyone to provide me with information.

Thanks!

You would need.

5 speed trans
Flywheel
Clutch
Axles
Brake assembly
Clutch Assembly
Master cyliner
Slave Cylinder
Shift Assembly
Shift Cables
Steel braided clutch line, about 7' of it made from the ends of a original clutch line.
Reverse sensor

If AWD you will need in addition

Matching T-Case
Half shaft
Rear Diff

You will need something to drill out the hole for the master, a dremel to grind away any excess metal.

Unplug the TCU, ECU is the same in a 2g

Remove the retaining ring( thats what I call it ) on the crank so the flywheel will fit.

Do the under the dash stuff first as it will take the most time and will be what gets you to quit.

There is some easy wiring work that needs to be done as well, wiring up the reverse lights and soldering together the park/neutral switch to start the car.

I have done 3 of these, 1 AWD and two FWD on 2g's.

Or just stick with an Auto. Remember an Auto doesn't have to lift the pedal to shift. :thumb:
I love my Auto i will never go back to a Manual.

Yeah i know about having to shift my previous car was a 95 dodge neon that got wrecked i used the money to buy this car which has alot of mods that i have yet to put on my page. The neon was a manual and i loved it my first and only manual trans car so far and i want this one to also be manual. Plus with the right setup can get better performance for less money sometimes but thanks for the suggestion

Thanks, yes i do have a FWD also with the parts list what parts from what year cars will work, ex. would a 95 to 99 eclipse 5 spd trans bolt up to mine? If you could provide me with this information with the list of parts i would appreciate it
