So I pull into the driveway and idle for a few minutes, then turn the car off so the timer takes over. Go inside the house to change and come back out to white smoke coming from the front of the car, and a huge puddle forming under the car. I check the puddle and find out it's coolant, while I wait for the smoke to clear some. Pop open the hood and I find a blown hose, just left of the alternator and directly above the oil filter.

I'm an amateur at best, so I don't know the technical term or specifics on the hose. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Vehicle is 98 GSX.

SInce you probably dont have any or little coolant left, take the hose off, take it to autozone. Once they see the inside diameter and the length they should be able to get you a replacement, even if you dont know what the technical name for it is

Thanks guys! I will head there today and get it replaced. Should I be good to go after replacing the hose and topping off the coolant? Anything I should take a look at as a "just in case?"

since the one hose poped. have all other hoses inspected for wear and rips. That way you wont have to buy another hose and more colant in the next couple days ;)
:talon:

Get a 3/8" fuel line and replace that line and other coolant lines while you are at it. One of the lines blew on me yesterday and I had coolant all over the engine bay. :(

Got done replacing both oil cooler hoses... what a PITA! Looks like I'll be grabbing some simple green and my hose here shortly :)

Ugh, if it's not one thing it's another. I blew another hose today. Drove it in to work no problem, idled for a few minutes and then I saw the white smoke... This hose is directly under the intake tube close to the turbo.

*I'm starting to think that my problems are related to a new radiator cap that was installed when I had the top end rebuilt.

I replaced the newest blown hose and started searching around for more that may need to be taken care of. Any suggestions of where to concentrate my attention?

All of them on Post # 7, both radiator hoses and both heater hoses. This will basically be all your coolant hoses.
