First let me start by saying that I searched and didn't find the answer to my question. My turbo siezed up and I am shopping for a replacement. I have the casting #'s off the intake side of the turbo.
It's stamped: Turbocharger
Type: TD05
RE.NO:KD070001505

It doesn't look like the pics of the T25 that are supposed to be on my car (95 TSI Talon AWD). It looks more like the 14/16G pics I've seen. It has a bolt on elbow for the pressure side that goes to the CAC inside the RF fender. The oil line goes to the rear of the head (trans end) and attaches with a Banjo bolt on both ends and the return goes into the pan. The coolant hoses are attached with Banjo bolts and run to 3/8 lines that come off the block and head. The intake fan has 12 fins staggered one tall, one short all the way around. Any ideas what this is?

I'm looking for a streetable turbo for a daily driver that won't have any more turbo lag than necessary. I was told it was "Upgraded" right before the engine blew up (threw two rods through the rear of the block). Could this be a 14/16G? Is the 16G good for an auto daily driver? IT seems to be the only smaller G turbo that I can find. I don't want TONS of HP, just reliability. I need it ASAP so I don't have to drive my SD V10 any more than I have to! Thanks for your help. Matt

TD05 + elbow sounds like a Mitsubishi turbo, so probably a 14b of 16b, if "upgraded', probably a 16g. If so the easiest way would be to get the same type because it will bolt right in. A 14b and T28 are very similar, a little more power potential and lag than a t25, and a 16g is just a little more so than these two. All are streetable, Mitsubishis are more affordable, a T28 is just a good upgrade from the T25 because it bolts right in.

Any pics?

It sounds from the i.d. numbers that it may be an e-bay turbo, can you post a picture of the compressor side? Does it have an adjustable wastegate actuator? Any 14b/16g should work good with an a/t, just run lower boost if your fuel system is stock.

Posting a pic of the turbo will help us help you in getting it identified.

Any 16g turbo should fit your needs nicely and they are reasonably priced. You may need an install kit however, depending on what kind of turbo you already have installed. If you dont feel comfortable or dont want the hassle of an install kit you can look at getting a T28 which will be a direct bolt on for your 2G.

Is the 16G good for an auto daily driver?
In my '90 Ply RS Turbo, I have a 16G with 450cc (stock) injectors..and use it as a DD. I travel freeway 4 days out of the week, 65 miles round trip. And if I drive sane and not make the boost gauge go into the plus column only on rare occasions- like in gradual acceleration, passing and don't embarrass ricer Hondas, I can still muster 28mpg without trying.

But, it also helps if tires are properly inflated, motor tuned to specs with synthetic 10w/30 oil in the crankcase, clean airfilter (my vehicle is all stock-no mods outside of the EGR blockoff plate done), running Redline MT-90 in the tranny - all the goody stuff to make the motor and car happy.

No pics right now. I'm going to order a 16G and hope for the best. It's got to be better than it was. After rebuilding the engine I had a helluva lag and lack of power coming off a stop. It took me revving to 4k just to get any power. I'd bet my bushings were shot from the start and it wasn't building any boost from day one.

Since you say it has staggered fins then it really sounds like a 16g because on a 14b all then fin are the same.

That's going to be ordered when I order the turbo. Can't hurt and is very helpful for diagnostics.
