I've been having low power issues ever since I built the motor for my 95 TSI talon. I didn't have a boost guage so I built an adapter for my a/c guages. After finding my car wasn't boosting I removed the intake and found the compressor wheels siezed. It's getting oil so I assume a bearing went out. It seemed fine when I put it back on the engine, no endplay and no sign of damage. Guess I was wrong.
I bought the car with a blown engine (rod through the block that I didn't see until I had the head off). "It just died on me" is what I was told, not that the two center rods went through theback of the block! In the same breath I was also told the turbo was "Upgraded" but that fat SOB lied to my face about the engine, so who knows.
I've never driven a DSM before. What are they like on power when stock? This one has been a dog since I built the engine a couple of hundred miles ago and only got low 20's for mileage. Pretty crappy even for an AWD. It was a pig pulling away from a stop. Once you got some speed up it was better, but not what I was expecting. My V10 has WAY more power. I guess I know why.
Where is a decent/reputable place to by a replacement turbo? I'm only street driving and need the car to be relliable. My plan is to sell it after getting it running right and finish my Accord rebuild. So I don't want to buy much more than a stocker. At least nothing that is going to hurt my wallet any more than it already is.
The tag says Turbocharger, Type: TD05. and something underneath I can't read with my mirror. I'll see it when I get the turbo off tomorrow night. The stock piping fits right on the turbo so I assume it's the T25. Where should I go to replace it? I need one ASAP since I'll be driving my 99 Ford V10 till it's fixed. Thanks for your help!
