So I just picked up a 91 gsx as my project car for the summer. I've been making a list of things to replace and wanted some input to see what you guys think. The car doesn't run, guy installed a Walbro 255 w/o an FPR and it has some oil leaked all over so I'm going to completely tear it down and make everything all nice again. The car has 142,000 original miles on it, here's my list:

TopLine Water Pump (Slowboyracing - $68.00)
Timing Belt Kit [Belt, Tensioner Pulley, Idler Pulley and Tensioner, Balance Shaft Belt, Balance Shaft Tensioner] (JNZ Tuning - $243)
TopLine Complete Engine Gasket Kit (Slowboyracing - $159.00)
SS Manifold Studs (SSStuds.com - $30.00)
Timing Belt Wrench [MD998767] (Millertools - $20.00)
NGK Wires - (Advanced Auto - $45.00)
NGK Spark Plugs (Advanced Auto - $12.00)
Megan Racing 3" Muffler ($85.00)
Fluids

And I'll of course install the FPR w/ some SS lines. So what do you guys think? Anything I'm missing or don't need?

Jnz tuning has a timing belt kit that is less expensive than slowboys. They are a very reputable vendor as well so check out their website. I'd go ahead and eliminate the balance shafts while your at it. Less expensive and one less thing to break. The list looks good though. What all comes with slowboy's gasket kit?

Slowboy's doesn't list every gasket in the kit but they describe it as: "The kit is a complete engine gasket kit. It has every gasket you can think of for your engine". Sounded pretty good to me, heh. Thanks for the JNZ kit. Also about the balance shaft removal, how much of a difference is felt in vibration? I've searched it a few times but could never find anyone commenting on how much more vibration is felt afterwards. I'm still going to use the car as a daily driver I wouldn't want to feel like I'm on a roller coaster the whole time. :D

I would do some arp head studs because one the stock ones strech and two they are cheaper then stock replacement and stronger and i dont know what your goals are but if your going to make big power id consider a mitsu 4 layer metal head gasket as well def remove the balance shafts

My new revised list with better deals and a few extras.

OEM Water Pump (Machv - $114.00)
Timing Belt Kit [Belt, Tensioner Pulley, Idler Pulley and Tensioner adjuster, Balance Shaft Belt, Balance Shaft Tensioner] (JNZ Tuning - $243)
TopLine Complete Engine Gasket Kit (Slowboyracing - $159.00)
SS Manifold Studs (SSStuds.com - $30.00)
Timing Belt Wrench [MD998767] (Millertools - $20.00)
NGK Wires - (Extreme PSI - $40.00)
NGK Spark Plugs (Extreme PSI - $10.00)
Megan Racing 3" Muffler (Extreme PSI - $79.95)
Fluids [Transfer case, real differential, transmission, coolant, brake, clutch, oil]
K&N Air Filter (Extreme PSI - $39.00)
Fuel Filter (JNZ OEM - $18.29)
Larson Colored Silicone Hose Kit (Roadraceengineering.com - $40.00)

Does anyone know where I can get a full timing belt kit with all the belts pulleys tensioner adjuster, AND the water pump for a better price? Thanks guys. Also do you guys think I really need the full engine gasket kit? Which gaskets at this kind of mileage really need replacing?

Congratulations on the car purchase, and nice move working on getting all the maintenance done first. Smart move there! :thumb:

We have a timing belt kit for 240 shipped that includes the balance shaft elimination ;)

Includes timing belt, tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley and a balance shaft elimination kit. Choose from the OEM belt, HKS's Purple Kevlar or Greddy's Blue Kevlar for added strength and style.

Replacing the head gasket is a good idea. the gasket kit may be necessary but it really depends on how many bad gaskets you have because buying individual gaskets can get expensive if you buy too many individual.
