After searching for over a week here and all over the internet, I am unable to find this information, maybe because it shouldn't happen... but I'd like to know before I waste the time to do it.
When I got this car, there were only 2 bolts mounting the transmission to the engine, and those were the top 2 bolts. I started having clutch problems, until everything pretty much failed to work at all. Hubby and I dropped the transmission (this is when we found the only 2 bolts) to install the new clutch and we found the sleeve over the input shaft holding the throwout bearing had snapped off flush with the bell housing.
Can this piece be welded back on, or do we have to replace the bell housing, whole transmission...? Here's a photo of the bell housing, the only clean spot being where the sleeve was... and where the clutch or flywheel had been rubbing.
Thanks a lot,
Lacey
