if i'm boost testing at the compressor inlet, should i be getting any air out of my BOV?

this is the stock bov, yes. not over 20psi, 15-20 is the pressure i've been using.

i've done a bunch of tests in the last two days, but i run it up to about 20psi.

the reason i'm still doing this is because my car finally holds good air at the TB after fixing like 4 leaks, but at the turbo it leaks bad, but i can't find any leaks at any of the connections in the charge pipes and the intercooler end tanks aren't leaking that i've found yet either, but my car still runs like crap, idle surges bad, doesn't wanna run at all till it's a bit warm then is a very up and down surgy idle. Can my BOV be leaking bad enough to cause a problem like this? it pushes air out at 5psi or less.

Does it leak out the recirc tube or the gasket or somewhere else? It should hold around 19-20psi without leaking out the recirc tube and not at all anywhere else. RTV will fix a gasket leak.

where did your leak turn up at? i feel like i've been running in circles, everytime i find a leak another one pops up.

Im pretty sure your bov is bad if its leaking at only 5psi, but also my car runs good and while at idle the bov is releasing pressure and its perfectly normal. I did some research and our stock bov's are like that because of its recirculation design. Either crush the bov like it was mentioned before or go the aftermarket way.

lleaks out the recirc tube

I'd pull it off and try cleaning the valve seat and see if that helps. If not, get another BOV. Maybe crushing it a bit would help (it's kind of useless as-is, so it certainly won't hurt :p). I got mine off eBay for $25 a couple years ago.

For now, if you can rig some way of capping off the recirc tube, you could go back to boost leak testing. Something like the boost leak tester but without the tire valve and smaller in diameter would probably work.

i tested it with a vac pump, cracks at 16inHG i cleaned the seat, when i was taking it off, i noticed the clamp on the vac hose had been crushed and wasn't holding tight anymore, but the hose still fits snug over the nipple...i'll boost leak test some more today, see what i can turn up.

its amazing how much a PITA our cars can be right? my leak was at the recirc-tube, i never covered it. definately find a way to cover the bov to prevent it from leaking while perfoming the boost leak test. then go from there.

i'm noticing a bunch of dirt down on the lower end tank of the intercooler, i was thinkin' that may be why i'm having so much trouble finding the leak, i think my next step is gonna be cleaning that thing out and then giving it a pressure test isolated.

finally got back to the car today. checked the timing marks to make sure, and they weren't in the correct position, i set it back to 30* atdc and when i put air to it, it turned the engine, the air i can hear leaking into the crank case seems to be the only leaks i can find. the only thing i could really think of was rings or maybe valve guides?
