well I stripped my balancer shaft when I put the new front cover on so I had it all apart and I check the #1 rob and it moved. Then I took the oil pan off to check it out. There was a pile of metal under the #1. So I popped the bearing out and it is all shredded. The crank looks like a mirror and the rod is about as smooth as aluminum can be. and it bad during the time that I have been trying to get the car running. I never heard anything.

So I ordered a set of rod and main bearings and a BSE. And when I get it to together if it all fits and doesn't look like it is the wrong size. Do you guys think that will be good enough to get me 10,000 miles out of this pile of crap? I've had it for 2 years and have put 80 miles on it and $4600 now. I fix one thing and then the next breaks. :beatentodeath:

yeah I just looked at it again and there is very small lines going around the rod journals or what ever they are called. I'm picking up a micrometer later today and I'm going to pop the rest of the rod and main bearings out. I'll check them and post some pics.

And another question. How can I flush out the motor without taking the head off again???
I should do something to clean out the turbo too. But I'm broker than broke. So any super cheap ideas????

spun rod bearings cause damage even though you cant see it at all. Might have to have your crank polished, the last time I spun a bearing it killed my rod journal even though it looked fine - used 6 bolt rods are so damn cheap it isnt even worth the risk.

I would be curious as to "WHY" the bearing spun in the first place. Cause and effect. The spun bearing is the effect. I would be looking for the cause. If you consider your engine an investment and are serious about it staying together after the repair, I would do a complete go through of it.

Cutting corners at this time will almost guarantee another why me thread.

Just my 2 cents.
Good Luck

no matter what, the best thing for you to do is remove the crank, take it to a machine shop, and get it reground and put OVERSIZE bearings in, or get a new/good crank. If you just put bearings on it and its bad, you'll just keep spinning them and maybe throw one. GL

yeah it spun because I put a new front cover on and didn't get the balance shaft in right. So my oil pump wasn't spinning (I know "how the hell did you do that"). I had a friend come look at it last night and we are going to pull the motor and redo everything. I had a few beers and cryied for a bit. But at least when I get it all back together I will be able to say that I have fixed every square millimeter of that car. And that it is the only 1g non-race car thats worth $6000+. Good thing I found partsdinosuar.com. Thanks for all the answers. I will keep you guys posted and maybe I will do a write up on some of my adventures when putting the new engine together.
