Just recently got my 99 Eclipse GS. Have fixed several things so far. But a little unsure on this one. The Cigarette Lighter is dead. Fuse is good etc. Just looking inside this thing looks bad. I picked up a $5 replacement at the local part store. But im not sure how to get the original out. Started pulling on the plactis housing but its not giving. I dont see any screws to remove. Any walk through would be greatly apprecited before I break this plastic surrounding it.

Thanks

If my momery is right, you ned to remove the center console first, you know the part with the arm rest. Then the screws from the panel that the lighter is attached to will be exposed. Then remove those and that panel should pop out and then you can remove the lighter.. This is off memory since I sold my dsm like 6 years ago =). but I should be pretty close

Thanks, I'll give the armrest removal a go tonight and see how far that gets me. I could see that freeing up the bottom part but the top that goes around the stereo area seems really tight with no screws in sight.

Thanks again.

Don't pull it out. There's a retaining screw kinda like a nut on the bottom side of the center console that holds the lighter in place. My center console is out i'd take a pic and post it but I'm at work. It's towards the base of the lighter and the console section. Turn it counter clockwise and you can remove it.

I gave that a try last night when I bought the replacement and noticed that it looked as if it screw'd in but the factory one wouldnt budge. As if its rusted, coroded, etc....

Since yours is out, what holds the top section of the trim in? I didnt see any screws. Are there clips?

Thanks

It has a big round nut looking metal piece that you have to remove before you can take it out. You have to take the center console out before you can take the cig. lighter out.

Just take out the center console first. It's only 6 screws and the center is out.

One screw on each side of the back end of the center console (between the front seats)

One screw on each side of the top of the center console underneath the panel around the AC and heater controls and the radio, the panel just pulls out by hand.

And Two more screws under the cupholder and ashtray after you pull those out, they come out in one piece by the way just grab all four corners.

Once the center is out the bolts/screws holding the lighter in can be removed and the lighter slides out the front side of the center, towards you if the center is installed.

Thanks fellas. I got it all done in about 5 minutes last night. Now I have my ipod doc plugged in and working. I in fact only ended up removing the plate around the a/c stereo, then popped out the stereo and tray out. Then had access to the lighter below.

I appreciate all the help.
