Running rich with 450s and 190, pulling fuel

I just got my GM MAFT Gen 2 installed, and I was told I am supposed to have all settings zero'd out. The problem is, I can smell and see my car running rich (fumes, black smoke at idle) It also hesitates under boost when zero'd out. The weird thing is, when I pull base fuel around -15 with the MAFT, the car seems to run MUCH smoother, and goes smoothly to redline.

My logger is currently broken, so I've been watching the EGT temps. Risky, I know, but hear me out. The temps never go higher than 1350, even at the top of 3rd and 4th. I am told the norm is around 1500 at the top of 3rd, but I have my probe mounted on the o2 housing rather than the manifold, so I drop the temp to compensate.

Oh, and yes, I've done a boost leak test, it holds 15 psi for about 20-30 seconds, then bleeds off to zero in about a minute and a half.

So my question is this: Is it unheard of to run rich with 450's; and should I still leave the MAFT zero'd out until I get bigger injectors, even if its running rich?

Thanks. :dsm:

Do you have a FPR?

If not you need one that is why its running rich.

Stock pump does not flow the same as a 190.

You should not tinker with the settings on the maf unless you have a logger, egt, boost gauges.

Also its probably better if you have a professional tune it.

I was under the impression that a AFPR was not necessary with a 190.. and that overflowing the stock FPR is possible, but rare. I suppose it would make sense considering my luck. :|

If indeed my 190 is overflowing my stock FPR, would it be reasonable to believe I would need to pull fuel to get it to run right?

Also, there aren't any 'professional' 4-cylinder guys in the boonies around here.. its all trucks with stacks and Grand Prix's out here. :D

I have a gen II on my 1G and experienced the same thing. I just used my wideband and adjusted the high load setting from 3000rpm to 7600rpm until i got close to 11:1afr. It is a little fickle I know from my own experience with it. I now run 650's and a keydiver chip and have my high load set to -15 because it was so f'ing rich.
