Sault Ste Marie,
Hey, I bought a used talon, under the impression, I had a 16G small evo 3 turbo. But I checked the vin. And it was an 18g.. with an aftermarket blow off valve. Everything else is stock. What mods should I get, other then, boost guage/full turboback exhaust and an intercooler/piping? I'm kinda new to this..

i agree on the DSM link. i would also look into some suspension stuff. extra power is only going to do you so good is you cant keep your car on the road. I believe there is no such thing as too much HP, just to little traction.:D

All stock with a decent size turbo upgrade is a recipe for disaster. Make sure the boost is down as low as you can go and refrain from going wide open throttle. you want supporting mods such as the fuel upgrades [ injectors, fuel pump, and adjustable fuel pressure regulator] and with the larger injectors you want something to tune with such as dsmlink, or an AFC/logger combo. Most people recommend the dsmlink, its abit more expensive but offers a ton more than an AFC logger setup.

A wideband gauge is also something to look into for tuning.

We offer tons of parts for DSMs, feel free to check us out and send me a PM with any questions or if you'd like more information.

I See your from Canada, we dont ship outside the US, but you can look around the site to get a rough idea on prices for parts.

I think some of the best advice can be found here

As for right now, if you have an after market boost gauge make sure you do not even spike over 15psi. If you don't have a boost gauge (the stock gauge is only there for show) make sure that you are not running an aftermarket boost controller- if you are you need to either install a boost gauge RIGHT NOW and set the boost at a safe level or take that the controller out completely until you get that gauge.

Definately get a good tuneing setup, SAFC with data logger or DSMlink. Also you will need some decent injectors some 650's or so if you want to raise boost

Do maintenance first. Period end of story. Just leave the turbo somewhere on a shelf until you have all the bugs worked out. Start with something like this.

Change:
Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner
Accessory Belts
Plug Wires (go for NGK's)
Plug (NGK Copper Plugs BPR7ES which is one heat range colder)
Flush and replace Coolant
Oil and Filter

Check:
Brake Pads
Brake Fluid
Slave Cylinder (if it's manual I'm assuming it is)
Master Cylinder
Rotors

Buy:
Something to Log with before you mod it
Bigger Injectors (for your big turbo at least 650's)
Bigger Fuel Pump
Rewire Fuel Pump (for constant pressure)
Something to control the injectors with (DSMLink, Keydiver Chip, AFC)
All the stuff you mentioned (gauge, exhaust, intake, etc)
Then and only then put the turbo on or you risk gravely harming your car
See the upgrade path already provided above

Ya thanks a lot, Well, I already got suspension, Eibach springs on tokico struts..
Dsm link is a little ouchy, anyone know where I can get a cheap labtop as well? and thanks for the advice everyone, I'm 100% newb when it comes to this.

I just bought a "new" laptop for DSMLink off ebay. For $50. Compaq Armada 1700 PII-266 with 64MB RAM and Windows 98 (this old laptop is hella heavy, but damn it feels a lot sturdier than most modern ones).

By the way, it's going to be a heck of a lot easier to get the car running good with bigger injectors if you go with DSMLink, versus say an AFC.

this is EXACTLY what you should do...

trust us, when we say what you should do, taking the time and doing it right the first time, will GREATLY help you in the long run...

Welcome to the addiction.

Thanks a lot guys, and yes it's manual, its 5 speed. I put a new timing belt on it, im buying a new access belt, and apparently my harmonic balancer is bad.. my friend said it could be crank walk.. but imma get a wheel puller and i bought the car with the turbo, and i got about a grand to waste, after I do all the basics, what should I do first? dsmlink? or full exhaust? or intercooler? o2 houseing? and full pump? someone said injectors are good, should I go with that first? sorry for all the questions..

I would definately get injectors and something to tune them first. But before you just start adding parts, not knowing where you want to go, stop and think about what type of power you want. Once you do that look at what parts you'll need and how much they're going to pull for your bank account, then rethink what your power goal should be haha.

One thing that you have going for you is that you have a 95 which came stock with an eprom ecu. In my mind this really only leaves two options; inexpensive (KEYDIVER Chips - DSM ECU Tuning) or expensive (DSMLink Homepage). Both are great options, it just depends on the money. Some would say that you could also buy a S-AFC from Apex-i, but then you would need to spend about 300-400 because you would also need to buy a Pocketlogger and Palm. IMO you might as well spend less money and get a better tune from Jeff (I think is his name) from dsmchips.com or spend just a little bit more and get a great all-round tuning/logging program from dsmlink.

For injector you could buy some used 560cc Evo injectors for $100-150 and be limited by how much boost you can run with your 18g, or spend $270-350 for however much flow you want. If you're not going to try running E85 then you will probably want either 660cc or 720cc injectors.

Hope that helps!

Don't for get that you'll also want to get a fuel pump to handle more flow. This link should help you decide what injectors and fuel pump will best fit your buget and power goal.

Ps. If you didn't know this yet, 1 lbs/min is about equal to 10 horsepower, and if you did... well, yay for you. haha good luck

Haha, definitely didnt know 1 lb/min = 10 horsepower
Thanks, ya I'm from Canada, we dont really have e85 gas here, so ill be using 720cc probably..
