I currently live in San Antonio, TX, but i really don't know of any DSM'ers that live close by.

Well back to the point, I was driving my car on 281 heading North towards SA, I felt my car thump, as if someone pulled my handbrake. I exited the main highway and drove on the feeder until i got to a complete stop, i put the car in gear and it did the same thing. I pulled over onto the shoulder and stayed there for a few hours. I got frustrated and turned the car on and tried to move it, i babied it all the way home from Alice, TX to SA, going about 45 the whole trip.

Well my question is if someone could let me know if they have experience with any of the Mitsubishi dealerships here in SA?
That and/or if someone could help me check out the fluid levels in my X-case, as i don't have any hand tools, except for some wrenches, but that isn't exactly what i need.:coy:

Thanks in advanced

ummm.. I dont think that your car would make a thump like that, and still drive home with a busted transfer case.. I doubt its the fluids.. Did it make any grinding and bumping sounds when you where driving?

Also, what are your driving habits? Do you launch hard alot (be honest, as it helps us figure things out)? Do you shift hella hard? Tell us a lil more...

When it did the thump, did it feel like it came from one side of the car more than the other? Because I had that happen to me on the freeway and it was one of my rear calipers locking up on me. I did the same thing you did to get home.

I've never launched the car, I really don't know how to do it, so I don't even try.

But it would still be nice to check the fluid levels and such, wouldn't it?

As I was driving home, the car made a humming sound, that would get louder coming from the front-center towards below the firewall.

transfer case???

Maybe.. I have heard viscous diffs make that same sound (or a similar one)..

There is a drain plug on the bottom of the xfer case.. you dont need anything special to drain some fluid.. Just a wrench.. See if there is any bad smell or chunks of metal.. And, if remember correctly, on the front of the xfer is the fill plug.. the tools to do this would come in packs of tools, that you could get at any auto parts store for 20 bucks.. I find that these cheap sockets and whatnot can do most small jobs without giving you too many problems..

You could always go to a flea market and buy broken craftsmen tools, and take them to sears and the will give you a new one of that tool.. No questions asked.. I have done it.. Thats another option..

When a transfer case goes, you aren't going anywhere. I've had one lock up on me and it shakes the whole car like all of your lugs are loose and your wheels are wobbling. Check out your rear and tranny, it's a good idea to change all of the fluids while you're down there though.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner

your very lucky man, none of the dealers around here wouldn't even bother with helping my situation. i ended up buying a used xcase for $80...which isn't in yet and the xcase went out in the car in Nov 07 LOL......im in the middle of a build so that is why it isn't in yet.
