1st gen BOV. Why would I want "quick relase" feature?

I am using a 1st gen DSM BOV on my turbo Honda. (yeah yeah I know, honda's suck... blah blah blah.)

Anyway, I did the "Dodge Garage" mod and drilled an atmospheric reference port into the BOV so that it would hold higher boost without leaking.

Everywhere I keep reading says that you can pipe the newly made reference nipple into a boost source if you want to use the BOV's stock, "quick release" feature.

Why would I want to do this? Does the BOV when it's in "non leak mode" not release pressure fast enough?

It releases a bit slower because boost pressure is no longer pushing up on the diaphragm, but more importantly its less likely to open at all at lower boost pressures or when you let off part throttle. The only thing forcing it to open is intake manifold vacuum and boost against the plunger.

What psi are you running? If its below the leaking point then you might as well take advantage of the quicker response and more complete opening by hooking the reference port up to a pressure source pre TB.

p.s. I have nothing against Hondas and give anyone props who turbos a n/t car from the factory :thumb:

A clever individual could hook up a boost switch and a solenoid and make it do both if they chose. The dodge garage shows how.I noticed compressor surge without the quick release at 10psi and below in my van.

Dejon also sells a pre-modded BOV with a solenoid.
