Swaping a 2G auto tranny for a 1G Manual?

Title says it all, i just bought a 95 TSi AWD turbo, only problem is its automatic, the only parts car i could find is a 93 ES, are the trannys the same?

No they seen way different the es is fwd and the front mount on a 1g is in a different place then the 2g

you can put a 2g trans in a 1g, but not a 1g trans in a 2g. Reason being is that the engine mounts on a 1g are 3 on the block, 1 on the trans. 2g is 1 on the block, 3 on the trans. that being said the cross member is in the wrong location (slightly), and there are no points to attach the 2g mounts to the 1g trans, nor are there points to attach the 1g engine mounts to the 2g block.

Also the obvious fwd/awd differences and you will need more than just a trans (console, shifter/base, cables, flywheel, clutch, pedal assembly, master/slave cylinder, ect..)


Edit: Just for reference, the reason you can put a 2g transmission in a 1g car (incase you have not figured it out) is that you can simply remove the front and rear mounts for the transmission and it installs just like a 1g trans.

Dont feel bad man I just started my tranny swap going from auto to manual in my 2g. I lucked out and my friend had an extra 2g manaul tranny with the cables. Just keep looking man they are out there just not the easiest to get ahold of.
