I am trying to get my rear axle off, and having a very hard time.
Got the Nut off the hub and it wouldnt budge. I was told to hammer, so I beat away at it for like 2hr and nothing. Its like flat now and still wont even budge.
Is there some thing from behind that I am supposed to undo?

Oh its for a 2G AWD.

Your going to have to unbolt some of the rear suspension components so you have some play for the axle. Once you get the axle out of the hub, just pop the axle out the diff. Pretty easy as long as nothing is rust welded in there.

Your hub assembly is seized onto the axle splines. Chances are, you'll need to use a torch to cut it off, but since you've probably already mushroomed the end of the axle, you'll most likely have to replace the bearing, the axle, and if you use a torch to get it off, quite possibly the speed sensor too.

Oh gross... The axle I was replacing any ways (When my t-case locked up my rear diff ripped off the car, and the axles tore off... big mess)

Iceman, the diff isnt the problem (Actually it broke off at the diff...) Will taking off some suspension parts help me with getting it off the hub?

I really wish I took pictures when I replaced mine...it was a PITA! I had every problem people have had with changing a wheel bearing.

Since I ruined the end of my axle, I just cut the CV boots off and was able to pull it (axle, hub and all) out through the knuckle. Make sure you have the 4 bolts off the hub. Just be careful, watch the speed sensor!

I then got some new/used parts to replace all that I couldn't salvage. It's easier to work with once you get it off the car.

Just as Eric says, just save yourself the pain and torch it out. New rear axles and bearings.

And I wanna see pics of the rear diff that "ripped" itself out of the car. That has GOT to cause more issues than a stuck axle.

Hmm, well I got "new" axles ready to go on.. so no worries in damaging the ones on the car even more.. I dont have bearings though, guess I should do them now? Are they expensive for the rears?
knochgoon24, You mean just take the whole thing out as one peice and deal with it off the car? The CV Boot alread tore off (from the diff) so no worries in ruining it more :)

And as for the diff, I will take pictures once its all off the car. But the 2 mounts that go into the subframe basically broke right off. the Diff dropped a good 6" or so and is being held up by the driveshaft, and one axle. The axle I am trying to remove tore off at the same time.

Quite the mess :D
I Guess thats what happens when the T-Case locks up on a high way....

Oh man i didnt...... I saw those too... but like no I will do as i am told.... bawahwhahah... atleast I got some anger and frustration out by beating the thing with a giant hammer ;)
Thanks a lot for the pictures :D

Those four bolts attach the hub to the knuckle. Just be careful around the ABS speed sensor. I damaged the wiring and plastic case which tripped ABS light until I came back and resolidered it. That's why my speed sensor looks so weird, it's covered in several layers of liquid electrical tape to seal it.

Mine was the same way after I removed the bolts to the hub. I had to replace basically everything back there on the car. We tried heating up the axle and hub to get the axle out and put it in a 30 ton press at the same time and still no luck.

put it in a 30 ton press

That beats me. I used a 15 ton and didn't get mine out.

Took those off, and every thing is still rock solid..

Look for every screw that might hold what you're trying to get off, to the knuckle.
If it's still stuck, just cut the axle and hit the cut end with a hammer to try to work the hub and everything out of the knuckle. Just an idea.

Buddy of mine is supposed to help on saturday.. hopefully he has better luck, until then I quit.
If we cant do it on sat. I will just cout every thing off and replace every thing in that corner (and maybe th eother side if that is just as tough)
Sucks, money I had set aside for more mods may be going to this :(
