I suspected that my ecu was bad on my 95 TSi AWD with and Eprom ecu.

So, I plugged it into my buddy's 96 TSi AWD, started it up and it ran shitty and really rich.

Then, we plugged his ecu into my car and is ran shitty and rich.

What the heck. I guess firing order is different? IDK whatever.

But, then he put his ecu back in his car and now his ecu got fried too.

What the hell is going on here?

Please help me. Thanks.

Uh you guys didn't just plug and play did you? You did remember to disconnect the battery right? I have heard stories of ECU's being fried that way. They are very delicate eletronics.

Shit...... yea we did just plug and play.

I didn't think about disconnecting the battery!

But... he did get another ecu from his friend. He plugged it in his car and it worked fine.

Swapping ECU's when something doesn't work is always risky. It depends on how and what it is that doesn't work. For example, if a solenoid that the ECU controls becomes shorted, then it may easily have blown the ECU driver for that solenoid. Installing another ECU will just blow the driver in that ECU also. Or if your ECU has a short in it and you place it in another car, depending on where the short is, it may blow something in that car. All shorts MUST ALWAYS be located and fixed BEFORE any ECU's are swapped! And of course ALWAYS disconnect battery before swapping an ECU!
