When starting my car up in the cold, my engine gives a squeel for about 5 secs then goes away. Then, when I am driving I have noticed a slight air whispering noise coming from it. Do you guys think is one of my belts going out??

Sounds like it. Be sure inspect the belts to see how worn they are. If you see cracking or pieces missing from the grooves, I would recommend getting new belts soon. These are pretty easy to replace; you can also use some belt lubricant to help silence the squeeling. This is available at any autoparts store.

:talon:

Mine doesnt sound like that, it squeels right away from startup and goes away in like 5 secs. Makes a more high pitched squeel too. Think my problem might be a belt.

Take it from me. Mine did the same thing and boom threw my belts just change em its only like $20 for two belts and ge it over with

I checked the belts, they are in good condition, but one might be alittle loose (Not Sure). I called the dealer and the guy said its a pulley. He said its probably the idle pulley??

Everyone I have talked to said its just a loose belt. I think its that one belt that extends further towards the front of the car. I could twist a section of the belt 90 degrees without much force.

You shouldn't be able to twist the belt anymore than 90* at the center of the belt and it should be taught. Inspect the belt tracks for cracks and if the top of the belt looks shinny or glazed go ahead and replace it. It'll be around $20 and you wont have to worry about it for a while. If the belt is worn, look at your other drive belts and inspect them as well. DSMs are all about preventive maintenance, if you fix them before they break they'll treat you good.

The belts look new. I felt the bottoms of both of them and they aren't cracked or missing any pieces. I did notice however that there's a little film of oil on one of the belts.

if the belts are in good shape you should be ok with adjusting them. Your profile says you have a N/T 2g spyder, so you would have the 2.4 SOHC engine, and i don't think they have the problem with the harmonic dampeners "crank pulleys" coming apart like the 4g63's do. I would check the tension on all of your drive belts with the car off and cool and adjust them as needed. Good luck.

Lol, hopefully my uncle knows how to tighten them up because I have no idea on how to do it with the Eclipse. Ive only tightened ones on trucks that have the spring tensioners.

I wiped off that gritty oil off of that one belt and put some STP Belt Dressing on that belt and it worked. No weird squeeking or that idle noise from the belt.
