I was about to order FORCED PERFORMANCE 6LS2 18G when I asked my buddy that owns a performance shop about the turbo. He said that it's a good turbo for my car but to be careful with it because it has a weak shaft, has anybody had a problem with it? If not I want to order ASAP :D

It hasnt exactly been out that long. I wonder how he knows that? Anywyas, I owned it for a brief time, and it was great, and I have never heard of any reliabilty issues with it.

i have it. it's a good turbo and gets the job done. i don't think it has any issues at all, but i do want something bigger already. that's the only complaint!

I've got about 2K on mine and she's going strong. I upgraded from a 14b and the difference was impressive. Your profile indicates you have a 16g so I don't think you're going to see a radical increase in performance over what your currently have.

My buddy doesn't own the turbo. He was telling me that apperently it uses the 14B shaft so when boosting at 20psi+ it is very suseptible to breaking. He brought this up because I broke the shaft on my 16g a few months back, I had it rebuilt a year and a half ago. The first time it broke the bolt on the compressor wheel came off and destroyed the blades. I don't want to be replacing turbo's every 2 or 3 yrs :(.

I know it hasn't been out for that long so I think I'm going to go for it :sneaky: Thanks for all the help.

^^^ I'm not looking for crazy horsepower, just about 350whp. At 18psi I'm guessing I wasn't too far from maybe 300hp at the flywheel since I only lost to my buddy's Evo MR by a car, due to tire spin at launch and 2nd. I have no problem keeping up on fwy.

Interesting about the 20 psi thing, since I heard the exact opposite. From what I gather the FP18G turbo doesn't really come alive until being boosted to 20+. I really wouldn't worry about anything with the turbo man. And for what you're looking for, you'll definitely get it. Maybe even more :)

I have also researched this turbo and the only reason its better than the 16g is that its more effiecient at higher boost levels. The turbo holds high boost levels a lot better between 22-28psi.

If you broke your shaft it was from either running the turbo dry and overheating the shaft and melting it essentially or you had such horrible compressor surge that the wheels hit the housing and snapped off. They don't just snap off at 20psi or above.

Ohh yea I was going to say that also. The 16g is freakin strong. I know multiple people that run 26+psi and the turbos are still running strong.

Now that you mentioned it I think thats what happened the second time. When I would run at high speeds I would have oil leaking from the oil feed line from the head. I just got a new oil line from RoadRace that runs from the oil pump. I think the first time it was just old. I hadn't chaged it or anything from when I got the 6bolt swapped in. I'm taking my time with putting everything together on the car so hopefully I will avoid any small stuff that will mess with the car. I just have to figure out the RM code. I got the black top CAS to try out.
