Hey, my name is JJ and I just registered here because i'm getting a DSM tomorrow. It's a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS (Non-turboed). I took it for a test drive and it is amazing. I am trading in my 2000 dodge neon for it and i'm getting a pretty good deal for the car. Its body is maroon, with tan convertible top, and tan leather seats. It only has 80k miles which is pretty good for a '98. The car has power everything and it also has 3" cat back exhaust. Does anyone know how reliable these cars are, and how susceptible is the 4G64 with getting crank walk? Thanks.

Nope! You'll be happy you got it. Let me tell you what is going to happen.
You get it, You'll be so into it you'll get another one. Probably Turboed, Then the spiral of modding and blowing money down the drain insinuates.

Okay, thats what I thought. If I do decide to turbo it, will it be more likely to get crank walk? Its got some punch for being pretty much stock.

With proper maintenance and not driving like your in the fast and the furious all the time it will be very reliable, and as said above, it's N/T so i wouldn't worry about crankwalk to much. If you take care of your car then your car will take care of you!:thumb:

Awesome, I can't wait to get it tomorrow. My uncle says its one of the sexiest looking cars in town haha. I'll be working on it for most of the day, because I have about $2000 of stereo equipment I am ripping out of the neon and putting it into the DSM. 2 12" Phoenix Gold subs in a ported box running 400 watts each, and my other 600watt 4 channel amp for my coaxials and tweets. Its going to sound alot louder than in the neon LOL.

congrats man. welcome! You should have to worry about crank walk and given the age and the probably high mileage i would think that it would already have started to have problems with that if it was going to. That car is gonna be a hell of a step up from the neon. out of curiosity have you driven a turbo one yet.. cause it is pretty addicting it might cause you to sell that 2000$ of stereo equipment and buy a turbo. :)

dont forget to post pictures when you pick it up.

Good luck
Greg

Congrats on the purchase and welcome the forum. You will be happy but you will be looking for FI. LOL

Sounds like a great Daily Driver. Keep it mostly stock, and save for a turbo model because when that is in the shop, you will be greatfull to have a nice DSM to drive. I wish it was 3 years ago when I had both haha. Good luck man!

4g64's are no more prone to crankwalk than any motor, however you won't have a 4g64 with a 98 Eclipse. The stock N/A motor is a 420a, just like the Neon. If you are not looking speed, it will make a great d/d.
