Edmonton,
I just bought a 92 tsi awd, I'm completely rebuilding the engine and drive train, and i want to mak e between 450 and 500 hp. Keep in mind that I want to keep it streetable and take it to the track on the weekends. I'm rebuilding the engine with evo3 pistons and 1g big rods, that should take my comp from 7.8 to 8.5 or so. The crank is good and true so it's just getting a balance. I also have A 91 tsi awd for parts.

So manly I'm asking the following:
What turbo, I want to stay mitsu, mabye a 20g?
What size injectors, 650-750cc's?
is a 255 fuel pump enough?
I'm going to swicth to a GM maf and translator, am I going to need any more fuel managment?
A front mount cooler is already in the works.

Any other suggestions would be great, 6 grand is my budjet for the engine and drive train:dsm:

Hey make sure you have ecu upgrades so you can tune that is the best way to get power from these engines. And keep it streetable and a datalogger I know this from my own research to build a 300 whp laser.

phirn

I would get dsmlimk, 1600cc injectors, and a FP88HTA turbo along with a bunch of other stuff. The items listed will easily hit 500hp, and leave you with some room to grow.;)BTW there's people with 800hp daily driver's. It's called a boost controller:)

everything you have listed you are in the right direction, i would add to the list
arp maine and head studs
gt35r with mitsu flange it goes right on your stock mani
bigger injectors prob 1000cc are plenty
and dsm link
he 255 is ok i would get a rewiring kit for it
i wold aslo recommend maybe you getting your transmission done maybe getting a stage one by tree, or shep in my case i have a race package from dogbox.
and this will bring you to your goal.just remeber after everything is set and done its all about tunning make sure you get some one good

Personally I think you should set your goals a little lower, with a 6,000 budget it is cutting it close to being able to make 450-500whp. You have to factor in shop costs not just part costs. You will need a FPR and EMS (not just a SAFC-II) check out the upgrade path listed on this site, it won't give you exact answers to what parts to get but it will give you a general idea of what to buy and you can start a new thread or search for the specific answer.

I think you would be VERY happy and impressed with a 400whp awd dsm especially if you haven't had the chance to ride/drive a "quick" car. IMO try for 400whp before 500whp :thumb:

at least 1000cc injectors
the 20g has the possibility, but i'd go bigger, at least a 50trim
the 255 will need to be rewired
if you are hellbent on the GM MAF then I guess go for it, theres guys making serious power with the 2g MAF, from what I've read it's good for 9's, from what I've physically seen - high 10's
To manage that 500hp goal you are going to probably need some sort of ECU tuning wether you use the chip and a wideband, dsmlink, AEM, but you need to know what's going on...

You are also going to need a serious trans and a serious clutch...6grand MIGHT get you there, but doing some figures in my head, it's looking like more...the race trans itself is like 1200 and the Maxx Extreme with street disc is 533 from extremepsi. thats damn near two grand before the turbo, injectors, wastegate(if you decide to go external), and basically any "get up and go" parts

+1 on what BoredOutaMyMind just said
but one thing is, he will not need a ems, dsm link will be good to tunne a 500hp car with out spending $1000+

2- with 6k like you said you had i would def set my goals lower.
worry about tranny maybe do it all to be abel too suport 400+ ### as you know dsm trannys are like glass.

and yeah check out the upgrade path listed on this site

like i always say reliabel befor fast.

I took out a small 3k loan to help me build up my car, and when I tore it down I ended up spending 1/4 or more of that budget just for maintenance parts. If I were you, Build a platform, find out where you are then build upwards. on top of that

Marcus92 said it...if you have 6grand, just make a serious platform that flows really well, even if you have to start off with a small turbo, small injectors, etc...if u have the tuning or tuning capabilities, later on you can get that monster 35r or whatever it is you are looking for...its better off having the peace of mind that if you rev it hard, or launch it hard, it won't break, other than, yeah either im going 10.80, or the motors gonna blow up hahaha

Evo3 pistons are 9.0-1 CR.
And not to be a stick, but...
If you could easily get that much HP from $6K, every turbo DSM would be doing it.
I agree with 2gdanny,
reliable before fast
Good luck!

Honestly with that money you can do alot off things. and its all up too you

You stated that you are rebuilding your engein and drive train?

If you didnt yet, my opinion would be get the engine and drive train ready to hold all the power you want.
1- Look in to doing a rebuilt tranny by( shep) (tree) i got my done by (dogbox) its up to you!
2- Rebuilt your motor looking at replacing all the belts, flushing the motor flushing the cooling system/ getting a bigger radiator with some nice slim fans changing the gaskets
and sens its apart get some nice pistons and rods( in your case you do have the evo3 pistons and 1g rods) if not look in to something else with lower cr (my opinion)and do arp head and main studs.

After all that is done...together and running im sure your 6k are gone, but your motor is ready to run all day with out braking and ready to handel 450hp+

3-Step 3 is the step you can start looking in to ### turbo you want ether mitsu flange, t3 or t4 a nice manifold a nice intake manifold ### injectors you would need and im sure by step 3 you have been here long enough.ROFL

i hope it helps my -2

Cheapest way

1) 255HP Intank Pump
2) 1150cc injectors (Not much more $ than the 550-950's anyways)
3) DSMlink
4) Small Mitsu 35R
5) GMAF-T with FMIC
6) ACT 2600 - Street Disc
7) Stock Block
8) Stock Tranny

Thanks guys, ever thing was good info, maybe 400 is a better # to go for, the 6 grand is after my engine was completely rebuilt, and I didn't use evo3 pistons, my bad they were 2g, I got the engine back yesterday and should get my head back soon, I'm starting to rebuild my tranny now. I haven't ordered any parts yet, but have completely torn it down, looks good inside but I'm going to replace pretty much every thing that needs to be to hold good power.

What kind of #'s can I get from a TD06H 20G, because I allready got it and the manifold

from my 18g on 20 pounds and after jsut a safc tune i got 330hp so after dsmlink goes in and tune it i will get more so with a 20g, i think you can reach your goal of 400+hp easily

I would strongly suggest getting a tranny built by a reputable shop such as shep or tre.
Follow up with dsmlink, 1000cc injectors, cometic headgasket, arp headstuds, and finish off with a gt35r. Then when you wreck your engine. build it up with a 2.3 stroker w/ a crower head and you'll be close to 700hp @ 35lbs of boost at that point.

he whants a dd not a 7sec car.

Honestly, a reputable trans shop whether it's shep or jacks we all know you are going to get a quality rebuild. But we all agree that the first step in building a 500hp dsm is to get that weak tranny out of there and put something in thats going to handle the power. Actually a was reading an article in january's addition of modified and their is a red talon in there, that guy knew what he was doing. He made 485 on stock block with a shep stage 4 w/o the welded 4 spider. So it shows you that the money is better spent in the tranny then the engine.
