custom subs

ok i want to build some custom sub boxes in my trunk.

this is kinda what i want but i don't know how to do all that fiber glass stuff so i just want some wood boxes that i can cover in the fabric subs are normally covered in. it's like a fine carpet or a felt type material.

so what is the best way to get a mold of these back corners? or am i going to have to measure everything out and all that stuff?

Best bet is to measure it all out if your making it yourself.
but if your looking for best quality and perfomance you have to check the specs on the subs manufacturing book. each sub is different. this will tell you cubic inches and other specs.
but if you just want sumthing that bumps, just measue out the best fitting.
boxes play just as big a role as the sub itselfe

basically its pretty easy,

most 10's 1 cuft sealed 1.5-2cuft ported
most 12's 1.5 cuft sealed 2-3 cuft ported
most 15's 2-3cuft sealed. 3-4 cuft ported

I have 2 15's in my talon in a 3.5 cuft isobaric ported, tuned to 28 HZ its got two old school RF punches in it. it slams on a 45wpc alpine amp. its louder at 35hz than most 1000watt systems at 60hz..

The fabric is called speaker box carpet and you can get it at any car audio shop or on eBay.

As mentioned before, you'll have to check the specs on your sub to determine how much cubic feet of space you need. If you will be running subs in a vented box, instead of a sealed box, you'll also have to determine where to place the port and how deep the port has to be in the box.

If you are going to make a box and place it with all your hatch plastic panels still on the car, just start with some huge art paper from walmart, get a trace, transfer the trace to a MDF board and cut it with a jig saw.

Your specs might apply to some 10s, 12s and 15s, not all. My 12" only need 0.88 cu ft. in a sealed box. The range is + or - 10% of the recommended cu. ft. so I went with 1.0 cu. ft. for my 2 x 12" subs.

I wish the 10's that i had only need that. mine need 2.5 CU.Ft. EACH.

that was sort of a general rule. too large is better than to small. to small generally raises the q of the system and makes it boomy, completly kills the low end response.

good points guys but it all depends if your going for just bumping, or performance.
if you want great sounding subs, do the math, and make the best.
if you just want some bump to your beats make a sealed box yourself
wouldnt hurt to check your local car audio shop for help
