Hi everyone and greetings from Finland:)
This is the first Mitsubishi that I am building and i bought the motor and transmission in pieces and now when I am installing the automatic transmission in the motor, I am having a bit of problems with the automatic transmission install.
This is a 1997 GST with a 7-bolt engine,imported from USA;)

Here is the deal:
Here you have a picture of my workshop manual

When I am installing the bushing on the torque converter, you can see that the 4 holes and the middle parts aren´t lined up with the center.

But when I am turning the driver plate the other way, it lines up perfect. But note that this isn´t the way the workshopmanual tells me to do.

When I am installing the turbine with the drive plate as in picture 3, it lines up like this

I also tried to install the bushing "inside" the crankshaft and now I can get the driver plate installed as in the workshop manual. But that is not the right place for the bushing to be in right?

So can you tell me, which way should the driver plate be installed? And where should the transmission bushing be?

People in Finland don´t drive with automatic transmission vehicles so this has got me kinda confused, but I am sure that somebody in here can help me with my problem:)

So I searched the forums and i found this picture on a thread about crankshaft bushing removal

Here is the thread

So the bushing should be installed "inside" the crankshaft. Then the drive plate (6) with ears facing the motor and then the adapter plate(5)?

Still one thing that I am wondering: should the torque converter be filled with transmissionoil before installing it to the gearbox

First off you have to make sure the starter plate that you have is for an automatic. The starter plate is different from a manual transmission to an automatic transmission. You have to have the correct one to line up properly.

Secondly the bushing goes on the crank befor the flexplate. The flex plate needs to be bolted to the motor. You do not bolt it to the torque converter until you have the motor connected to the transmission. When it is connected together then you connect the 4 bolts to the torque converter from the bottom. You do one at a time and then spin the motor from the crank to get to the other bolts doing one at a time. Make sure you use lok tite red or your bolts with rattle lose. You do put fluid into the torque converter before putting it in. You put at least 1 to 2 quarts in. Then you put it into the transmission and spin the torque converter until it drops in flush. If you do not spin it it doesn't get seeded far enough in. In your pictures you show the torque converter bolted up already to the flexplate. You cannot do that. You'll never be able to seed the torque converter into the transmission that way. There is also a round plate that goes on before the flexplate.

InvaderGSX: the problem has already been solved and the engine is in. I had the torque converter on only for measuring. Yes, I filled it up with transmission oil before installing it.
The only thing that really made me confused was the transmission bushing, due to the workshop manual. If you take a look at it you know what I mean.
But when I made some research here on dsmtuners, I founded the picture with the bushing inside the crankshaft

Here is my project thread, obviously you don´t understand so much of the language, but you can look at the pictures to see what´s going on:thumb:
