Aight so I just bought a 97 Gst and the guy told me it would try and start and wont keep running. So Thats exactly what it does. I Noticed there is no cam sensor on the passenger side like 90-94 and 97-99 motors. I did find a cam sensor on the driver side intake and it is not plugged in like the older 95-96 style. The wire plug for a cam sensor is on the passenger side and a rubber plug is where the cam sensor should be. So i rmoved the plug and it is threaded to accept a cam sensor. I found the link lisited below how to wire a 1g for a 2g but the diagrahm doesnt make sense to me.. any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Larry

One more question i forgot to add. If the crank sensor is plugged in which it is. Will it run or stay running without the Cam sensor there or hooked up? The guy told me it ran fine until one day it just stop running.. Thanks, Larry

You don't know what you're talking about. You've replied at a rate of one per minute to try to get proven member status. That's not too bad until you start posting incorrect technical information. Quit it.

The car will not run without a functioning CAS. The ECU has no idea when to fire injectors and spark without the CAS.

The 2gb CAS is on the end of the intake cam like a 1g. Maybe the motor was swapped from a 2ga. But I'm confused...you have a CAS, it's on the driver's side like a 2ga, but it's not plugged in? Or it's plugged in but not working? Does the car start, rev a second or so, then poop out? Do you get a CEL?

It has the crank sensor on the crank which is plugged in and then it has the cam sensor on the driverside under the cam gear which is not plugged in. On the passenger side there is the wire for the cam sensor and the valve cover has a plug in it where a cam sensor should be on a 97-99. It must have a 95-96 head on it. But the guy told me it ran that way.
So Can it or couldve it ran with only the crank sensor plugged in and no cam sensor?

Can I wire up a 1g cas and eliminate the crank sensor and cam sensor one under the cam on driverside like shown at RRE?

I would say no, it would not run without a CAS unless the previous owner somehow hacked a CAS signal out of the CPS, but I don't know how possible/likely that is.

You need the crank sensor. Leave that alone. I'm not sure where the plug is for the 2ga CAS (where it connects to the harness), but you might search around. If the harness is still a 2gb harness, you might want to get a 2gb CAS housing and sensor and install it on your 2ga head and connect it back into the 2gb harness at the normal location. There is a thread in the Newbie forum right now about a guy who switched his 2ga CAS to a 1g CAS. Might want to PM him and see if he can give you a bit more info. His name is like TurboTaloon or something.

Is the CEL on?
