Regina,
I am going to be putting my engine back together here, got everything back from the machine shop today. I have had the block sitting over winter, and sprayed on a light coat of wd40 to keep it from rusting. I must have missed a little though as the crank journal (Where the main bearings go) have developed the very slightest of surface rust, which looks like it would probably just wipe off. There is also a little on the surface of the front of the block. If this doesn't just wipe off, would it be ok to hit it with some 600grit sandpaper and a block to renew the surface?

Also, I had the head resurfaced, but not the block. Could I just use a sanding block and some 600 to prep the block surface?

Thanks guys
Steve

NO. The slightest bit of pitch in the deck could ruin your engine. I suppose thats what your talking about is the deck?

Yes I was referring to the deck basically I just wanted to get all the old gasket material off. I already hit it with the scraper to get most of it off. I think I will just get it decked though.
