I have a question about the knock sensor's effect on the engine performance. Most of us know that if it's disconnected, the card will forcibly retard timing. The questions is, will a disconnected knock sensor retard the engine so much that it'll run very rich?

I was reading your other thread and I have to ask; why don't you just fix the broken connection?

I will fix the connector. However, I was curious what effect it would have on the car at idle - hence the other post.

Can someone check to see if effect the idle of the car or not? That's the only way to know for sure.

Why dont you unplug it and see how it runs if you really want to know. I dont think it will hurt anyting accept the motor wont beable to read knock and retard timing which is unsafe. Also should through a CEL.

Well, that's the thing. My connector on the factory wire harness broke - dry rot plus heat from the under the hood. Anyways, my car is idling rich and I don't know if it's because of the knock sensor not being connected. Also, the ECU didn't throw any codes.

Long story short - I can't do it myself because my connector is broken. I just need to know if the sensor being disconnected would affect idle.

I spliced and reconnected it for the time being. I'm now getting signal - :). However, I'm still concerned that the ECU didn't throw a code. Car still running rich. Problem is definately not the knock sensor. Thanks for everyone's input.

no the knock sensor being unplugged will not effect idle, anything over an idle though it will affect. but i dont see why the ecu would richen things up though. also, it will throw a code.
