Well were do i begin ,recently my dsm blew a oil line while i was driving and it appenrently blew out the head gasket:cry:,now i want to fix it but a have a fear of crankwalk in the 7 bolt,so i want to drop a 6 bolt in to my gst.Im planning to rebuild a 6 bolt ,but im wondering if i can use my rebuild 7 bolt tranny with a 6 bolt engine. How would i tell apart a 6 bolt from a 7 bolt just by looking at it ?For the peolple that have already experinced swaping a 6 bolt engine is it hard work or is it simple?

When doing a 6 bolt swap, you keep your 2g tranny.

Here's how to tell the difference between a 6 and 7 bolt:

Or the better way would be to count the number of bolts that hold the flywheel to the end of the crank.

I recommend reading this document (as well as some threads on here) about what all is needed to do the swap. This document should be very helpful and it has a list of what 6 bolt items you need and what 7 bolt items you use.

The spline count on the trans is the same 90-99. The 6 bolt swap is easy, all you really need is the flywheel, 6 bolt longblock, wire in the CAS and do a little grinding on the drivers side motor mount to fit around the water pump and your good.
