So last week, I was building and maintaining boost just fine. All of a sudden, I cannot boost for the life of me! As soon as I get to spooling RPM's, it just kinda sputters out and wont pull any more or boost at all. I know it isn't fuel cut. I went around and checked all of my vacuum lines and IC piping but everything seems to be as it is supposed to. Gonna check the BOV and wastegate and see if maybe one of those is stuck open a bit or something. Anyone have any other ideas??? Car runs perfect other wise. Pulls hard all the way up to where it would start spooling. Idles fine. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

notice it somking at all? sounds like its a turbo issue i would pull off the intake pipe and check the turbos shaft play

Your wastegate might be stuck open. Even with a massive boost leak you should be getting some boost.

Well, it barely reaches 1psi if you wanna call that boost LOL.

No, not smoking. Turbo is brand new, but yesterday I still pulled off the intake tube to make sure. No shaft play, and turbine is spinning freely.

+1 on the boost leak test put soap in a spary bottle with some water and spary everything cuples vac lines throttle body everything

When mine did this the turbine had sheared off of the shaft, bounced around inside the O2 housing and stayed there.

also check the gasket between the turbo and manifold for exhaust leaks. Mine went the other day and the car still ran great just generated no boost

Yeah, I will definitely be doing that if I find that its not the BOV or WG stuck open. I gotta build the tester though first. :thumb:

Wow! That is bad news LOL. Pretty sure thats not what happened to mine....but hey, I might as well check. Ya never know!

Anyone else experience something like this where it turned out not to be something such as boost leak?? I just wanna have as many ideas as possible so when I go to fix it, I can check on all the possible culprits at once.....If it turns out not to be a boost leak. But that will be the first test.

check for exhaust leaks before the turbo in any of the gaskets. I put on a FP big t-28 like 2 months ago and boosted and spooled perfect and a week ago i started to lose more and more boost and gain more and more exhaust noise. Turns out the gasket between the turbo and manifold went to shit

yeah what kind of gaskets did you use when you installed the new turbo? i used a thick metal gasket for between the turbo and manifold and a metal one for the exhaust manifold to the head

Good tip! Because something similar was starting to happen to mine. I noticed yesterday there were a few puffs of smoke coming from in between the turbo and mani. Turns out though 2 of the bolts holding the turbo on had started to work themselves loose...even with lock-washers. However, fixing that leak did not improve the current problem.

I used the thick stainless steel gaskets for both the mani to head, and turbo to mani. After fixing the first leak, I felt and listened for anymore....seems like its sealed up good now in those 2 areas.

:UPDATE: So I finally had some time to make a boost leak tester, and after I got off work last night I went home and started testing. I couldn't get it to hold any air at all from testing at the turbo inlet. But didn't have any free hands while filling it with air, to check and feel for leaks. I could hear the air just dumping into the engine bay but couldn't find it on my own. So I had my buddy come help me.....Turns out the coupler holding my LICP on to the turbo compressor had a HUGE rip in it on the one side I couldn't see. I replaced it, and now I'm in boost heaven again. WHOOO she's running like a champ!!! :D +100 for the ol' home-made boost leak tester (and my buddy)!!!
